De Pelgrom: Candle light in Medieval times

It is not only a pub housed in a medieval cellar, but you can also have dinner there or parties.

Do push that heavy oak door, walk through a room with an open fire place, cross the room with that trompe d'oeil painted at the wall and go down these stairs to go into the belly of the old medieval city `-)

Go further into the medieval cellar of this establishment and discover!
When you just entered the restaurant/pub, you will find the regular tables where you can have a drink by candle light. Dutch visitors frequent this pub very often.
Go further into the cellar and see the garlic is hanging all around. No fear to get hit by a vampire! It is a vampire proof medieval cellar!
It seems like you are entering in one of the paintings of Breughel!
The sausages hanging all over the place `-)
You wouldn't believe it!
There was even a goose in that cellar! I think they kept it there as a guardian to warn if there should be trespassers.
“Pelgrom” refers to pilgrimage. It was here that pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella could take a break.

Favorite Dish: You can also just have a drink.
There is mostly baroque music playing.

I haven't had dinner here (yet) so I cannot tell you anything about the quality.
I can tell that the service is friendly.
When too crowded it doesn't feel like there is enough fresh air.
People with claustrophobia better avoid this place.
People who love candle lights are at the right spot!

Pelgrom: Kwak the best

This restaurant is made from an old wine cellar located in the center of Antwerp. It's very easily recognized by it's wine barrel hanging in front of the second floor's window. This corner of Antwerp always makes me disoriented and I gave up looking for address but look up to that hanging barrel to find the way. Getting through its narrow door, it opens you to another world underground. I felt like Alice when she fell into the white rabbit's burrow. It's nice to be here both in summer or winter. In the winter, there is a fireplace to warm you up. Take some steps down, there is a big cellar waiting. This cellar is not a single cave or a big room, but on the left or right of each cave, it always opens to another cave, glistening in the candle lights.
The best choice of beer here is KWAK. This special beer is served in a swan neck glass, which is favorable enough that you have to deposit 10 euros for it (will be turned back when you give the glass back). It's a bit inconvenient but it's really worth to drink KWAK here.

Favorite Dish: I have seen KWAK in some other places but I keep to drink it only here with beef steak. Yummmiii.
