Freshly modernised restaurant in one of the oldest buildings by the cathedral.
Went there for Moulles Frittes - Exellent choise.
Favorite Dish:
Only tried the moulles, but they had great selection of other fish dishes and meat.
A nice restaurant, fairly big, spread over two levels.
Some say that it's the oldest restaurant in Antwerp. I don't know if this is true ... I wasn't born yet in 1750. :)
The Rooden Hoed used to be famous for mussels & fries. Nowadays it offers a more inventive and modern cuisine although fish remains one of the main elements.
Favorite Dish:
They offer a market menu that changes regularly. It's a 3-course menu and - maybe we had bad luck - our menu in April 2005 was really not worth the money. Sorry!
We had a small bowl of asparagus soup that didn't taste like asparagus (asparagus were at little expensive at that time, maybe that's why ...), main course was grilled sea bass with a jacked potato and one single tuft of garden cress. Desert was the only dish that could really please us: puff pastry with mascarpone and fresh strawberries.
The price for this market menu was 30 euro (excl. drinks).
** I marked "somewhat unsatisfied", because the price/quality ratio was not what it should be.
