    De Slegte - Antwerp

The Slegte is a well-known chain of second hand books throughout The Netherlands and Belgium. They claim to have over a million secondhand books on stock. So, have a look, you always leave this shop with a book.

Explore this shop well. It has hidden spaces and both lower and upper flores (and a small shop around the corner at the Meir 40).

In June 2013 the name of the stores was changed into POLARE. That only lasted a year whereafter the 8 Belgium stores were bought by their previous owner and will continued as De Slegte again.

    Business hours:
    Mo-Sa: 10AM - 6PM

What to buy: Second hand books.

    What to pay: Low prices

CLOSED: RECORD COLLECTOR: Record Collector; Second hand records & CD's

    by pieter_jan_v Updated Sep 21, 2013
    Former Record Collector - Antwerp
    1 more image

RECORD COLLECTOR to me was the best second hand record shop in Antwerp. As far as I know it's the shop that existed longest of all the record stores.

No more asking staff for your special wishes; for are boxes of records stowed away in a small attack. It was not always clear where to start your search.

In 2013 at the Amsterdam record fair I met the owner of the shop, who told me that he had closed the shop earlier that year. A real shame, but that's the way things went.

What to buy: Second hand records.

What to pay: Depends, but the average is around 3 Euro's for LP's.

The Free Record shop is a branch of a chain of music shops. The latest development is that music CD's becoming rare in the shop and perhaps somewhere in the future is will be a game shop only. We'll see.

Vinyl at the Aalmoezenierstraat is closed, although I saw piles of records still in the building. In May 2011 the new shop re-opened at the Volksstraat and now is combined with a small cafe section in the front of the new shop and called Coffee & Vinyl. In the back the records are well sorted.

    Mekanik strip.: An ideal souvenir?

by belgianchocolate Written Feb 21, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mekanik strip is the largest shop I know in it's
kind. Belgium is know for its comic books.
    We call them strips...

This huge shop sells them and everything
related to them. It isn't a strictly Belgian shop.
They got them from all over the world.
Sometimes they got the artists themselves
    to sign yours.

Anyway if your interested , check the website
and go and have a look.

    What to pay:
The collectable objects are quit expensive ,
as well as computergames and chess plays.
    But they are something unique...Normal
    prices for baaks.

TUF TUF club: Books books books boooks

by belgianchocolate Updated Dec 18, 2004

    boooooks

This used to be I tiny shop with books raising
till the ceiling and two large dogs walking
true the narrow aisles. You had to lift up lots
of books and put them somewhere else
before you could get that one you need...

Now the store has moved to another bigger
location...you still have to lift up dozens of
books but I didn't saw the dogs anymore...

What to buy: I found an edition of gathered together
old zoo magazines 1969-1972 , more recent
magazines as well , old books in different
    languages...

They also got a lot of strips , first print for the
    collectors.Thorgal , Suske en Wiske , Nero ,
    rooie oortjes.

They even got an adult corner...but I don't
know what they where selling there???

    Also old cd's and LP's...

What to pay: Very reasonable prices...1 euro till..
