Beach promenade by benidormone On the left bank of the city at the Saint Annabeach, you can go for a walk along the beach promenade. There are lots of cafes and restaurants at the promenade where you can have a drink or a snack. Leave a Comment

Saint Annabeach by benidormone Yes Antwerp city has a white sandy beach on the left bank of the city. In summer it can be really crowded. Of course it is not allowed to swim in the river Schelde, it is to dangerous and not really clean. Behind the beach is the open air swimmingpool De Molen (The Mill). Leave a Comment

View from Saint Annabeach%c* by benidormone If you're on Saint Annabeach its a strange feeling to see the industry on the other side of the river Schelde. Its not really pretty, at night however it looks like if there is a whole city on the other side. It looks like a giant xmas tree. Leave a Comment

by Nathalie_B Almost every year the race is organized by the Sail Training International. Tall ships are cruising around Europe and stay in different ports for a few days. The route changes from race to race therefore in 2005 Antwerp won't see the show again. But you should definitely come here in July 2010 between the dates 10 and 13. Sorry, it's a long time to wait now but you'll have a chance to see about 100 tall ships that will arrive from over 30 countries and some of them even will be open for a visit. Don't miss this opportunity the show is great and definitely worth seeing at least once a life! If you'd like to find the route of the Tall Ships Race click HERE Leave a Comment

Antwerpen: Het Steen by OlafS The name 'het steen' means something like 'the stone' and probably dates from the time when it was the only stone building in an otherwise wooden town. Churches excluded probably. It's a castle and dates from the 13th century. Numerous renovations changed its looks since, making it look like a 19th-century romantic follie more than an authentic castle. Today it houses a maritime museum. It looks as if it always stood a little remote from the city, but in reality the whole neighbourhood at the harbour, with hundreds of medieval houses, was demolished about a century ago when the river was straightened. Het Steen is all that's left. In the picture you can see a horse-drawn carriage. These can be rented for short tours of the city, but they're rather expensive. Leave a Comment

Ernest van Dijck kaai by belgianchocolate Antwerp is alive. It is not an open Museum. Old buildings and new buildings go hand in hand. The future will tell if the new buildings are as lasting as the historic ones... Lots of bad examples - politietoren : police tower- oudaan (once a price winning design - one of the three towers that dominate the skyline) - stadstheater : city theater : Meistraat (voted the worst building ever) - etc Good examples -Ernest Van dijck kaai - look at the picture. - in the future...the new court of justice. (building works in progress) Bolivarplaats. Leave a Comment

La Bourla by martin_nl This is also called the French opera. Since the French didn't understand any of the opera's in the Flemish opera, since the spoken language there was is dutch only, they decided to build their own opera building. It's a stunning piece of architecture, even though it doesn't look as dramatic as the Flemish one, it's still beautifully made. Leave a Comment Address: Komedieplaats 18Directions: Near Groenplaats.

Tower next to river Schelde by martin_nl Before we went to have diner, we walked along the river Schelde. This river flows right through the city. The tower on this picture is right next to the river. If you follow the Schelde you will also pass "Het Steen" an old castle that now houses the National Maritime Museum. Het Steen is the oldest building of Antwerp. Leave a Comment

Beside the Schelde by KennetRose Antwerp is both a beautiful, lively city full of fine buildings and works of art, and one of the world's great ports and industrial centres. Somehow it manages to combine the two roles very happily. Nowhere can the flavour of Antwerp be captured better than by a stroll along the old wharves of the River Schelde. The local people know this too, of course. hey have taken to siting by the river on the bollards, and since some of them have become attached to "their" bollard, they have personalised them by painting them in distinctive styles.
