Muhka - Museum for Contemporary Art, Antwerp
MUHKA’s full name is Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen, or Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp. It has been housed in a converted grain silo and adjoining warehouse since 1987. This renovation and change of use is very much in keeping with the attention that is now being paid to the fascinating urban planning of the ‘Zuid’ or South area of the city.
The MUHKA’s 4.000 square metres of exhibition space devoted to art from 1970 to the present day. The building and the collection, which of course is constantly being added to, belongs to the Flemish Community. Moreover, the museum has the Matta-Clark Foundation collection in its possession for an indeterminate period of time. Initially it formed the basis of the MUHKA collection and consists of more than 150 works by Belgian and international artists.
A number of temporary exhibitions are mounted each year.

Ok , I'm the first to tell that the museum for
modern art - 'MUHKA - 'Museum voor
hedendaagse kunst' in dutch isn't Antwerps
best museum. The building from the outside
is quit remacable but not build for this cause.
The Muhka has got quit an archive where
they can take works from to expose. They
also often attract foreign artist or build up an
exhibition by one artist.
The works change on a regular bases.
So it is stupid to say something on the quality
of the work.
Sometimes the works make you smile ,
think... Your amazed how they made the
things... AND sometimes it is so boring , ugly
and then the best thing is the cafeteria.
(which is quit nice.)
'Parents' are welcome for sure
because there is a playroom and aften
activities organized by the museums during
school holidays. Please check the website
for full information.
Anyway , if your not into modern art and your
on a tight schedule , skip this one.
(in the picture , a work by 'Wang Du' ,
body works , it was placed just in front of the
elevator. Quit a surprice. Btw if your easely
offended by nude stay away. ;-))
A nice museum for modern arts is the MuHKA: Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen. On their website you'll find the information about the expeditions they have at this moment.
