This restaurant, located just next to the Groenplaats, is one of the main tourist traps of the city!! The waiters pray on passers-by to get them to eat here, however once you've eaten what you're going to eat and drunk what you're going to drink, and you think about just laying back and chatting a bit after the meal, don't be surprised if they litterally carry you out of the restaurant to make room for those waiting for a table!!
Don't think I'm exaggerating, cause this happened to me!! We were getting up to leave after dinner, but at a normal and relaxed speed and the waiter picked the coats off our chairs, pushed them into our hands and shoved us out of the restaurant ... yes, we had already payed ...... profits were in, they didn't need us anymore, so without further adeu, we were to make room for the next consumer!!!!!!
Most horrible experience in a restaurant in my life!! And you're not missing much by not going, the food ain't nothing special!!
Fun Alternatives: There are plenty of alternatives!! Go to my restaurant tips for starters !!
I know some people think horse and carriage rides are terribly romantic but I just don't. And they are usually really really expensive as far as guided tours go. But if you want to take one, we saw these around the Grote Markt.
I have always heard that Belgian fries were the best in the world. I bought a basket of fries at supposedly the best place off of the Grote Markt. I ate them looking for something special. Nope, I have had better fries dozens of times.
Unique Suggestions: These fries were very expensive also.
Well not really a tourist trap. Just very
inconvenient. There are great works going on
in the city. The main road - de leien -
frankrijklei , Italielei , britselei and amerikalei
are being worked on. Parts of it are closed.
So by car when you don't know you way
around in Antwerp it is hard to get from one
part to another.
The puplic transport will continue to do it's
job as well as possible.
Unique Suggestions: Hmmmm , just be patient and stay calm
when your in your car looking for a way out.
Parc your car at Berchem station and take the
tram. Don't come by car , use puplic transport.
And if you pass by... enjoy the remains of the
old city wall. Huge works will probably take
place until 2010
When you look carefully on the green workers, you will notice that one is very lazy, reading newspaper (not on my photo). Indeed, this one is not made of metal, but he is a real man. When I was there, this man was of a bigger size than the others, otherwise I would not be able to recognize him from the statues. I guess, when you go there, you may see another guy there, so try to indentify the pretender :o)
