Thanks to our huge nature reserve Kalmthout is a perfect place for making long bike tours, either on an ATB or a race bike. The terrain is mostly dirty roads, so an ATB is essential in the rainy period (that's almost year round in Belgium! ;).
Of course it's possible to cycle on the local roads and a race bike just is the better choice then.
Equipment: Bring your own bike, if you can. There are bike rental services but rather limited (in the stations of Heide and Kalmthout, and in the Aerts Action Bike Shop (not on Sunday).

Kalmthout lies about 25 km north of Antwerp city, close to the Dutch border. The 'Kalmthoutse Heide' (heath of Kalmthout) is a 1800 ha big nature reserve with pinewoods, moor, fens and landdune.

This 1,800 acre preserve features a varied terrain, with pine forest, marsh, sand dunes, and moors. There are lots of footpaths for adventurous hikers.
