As told in the previous tip, Mortsel houses the factory of Agfa-Gevaert.
On this picture you have an view of only a small part of the whole area.
Fondest memory: My father worked here his whole cariere.
I think he must have been around 18 when he started and he retired here.
He was member of the firefighters and when he retired his colleagues gave him some of his stuff, like helmet and long black coat and a nice picture of him, wearing his helmet.
I only remember once that he came home after putting out a fire, he was stinking miles around! Sometimes he had stories about ppl getting caught in a gaz that turned them high, but was not really very healty, while they were cleaning out a tank.
Many many years ago, a man called Lieven Gevaert started a company here. He produced film for photography and the company's name is known as Agfa-Gevaert.
Fondest memory: This picture shows a demonstration of the firefighters of the company when they were on strike, fearing they might risk their position in the company.
The warning on the sign reads:
"Stop dangerous habbits"
but I thought it was nicely combined with the "hanged man" at the wall!
