Oosten Eind Things to Do
Located about halfway down the main shopping street, Oostendes largest square always seemed to be full of activity. The square is surrounded by restaurants and was bustling with people during the day and evening. It is a nice open area for kids to run and play, while you enjoy a drink at one of the surrounding cafes.
The smell of fresh fish and view of the old fishing trawlers make the harbor area full of character and a good place for a stroll. It also has plenty of places to pop in for a shrimp or mussels snack to give you a little more energy for the remainder of your visit.
St Petrus and Paulus Church
While its neo-gothic style makes it look much older, this church was built in 1904-05. Belgium's first queen, Lousie-Marie has a mausaleum inside. Make sure to enjoy the stained glass windows of the former Belgian kings.
Oosten Eind Restaurants
Along the promenade: Enjoy the mussels
You cannot leave Oostende without enjoying a bucket of Mussels at one of the restaurants along the Albert I promenade. We stopped in several restaurants throughout the weekend and were never disappointed with the mussels.
Oosten Eind Warnings and Dangers
Make sure you goto the bathroom before you leave the restaurant or bar. Otherwise, don't expect any privacy in the public restrooms. It will be a long walk home if you are a person with 'stage fright'.
