Years ago, this restaurant was a common pub and snack bar and was a very nice part of the city park. I remember very well that we were able to go for a swim and then go with wet clouts for a drink and snack.
Some years ago, this place was taken over. Everything changed. Not aloud anymore for swimmers and well dressed people were the new rules. For most Turnhout people this was the families' spot where we were able to drink, eat a snack while the children were playing and swimming.
Now this spot turned into a first class restaurant, and the prices are high.

Tavern Tamboerke is a nice place to enjoy the view over the market square. The food and beers are very fine here. The most you find here Belgium cuisine, but also spaghettis and delicious mussels. The place has a second floor with nice antique furniture...

Also a hotel, the Weerelt has a good filled menu of Belgium and international cuisine. Enjoy eating in the wonderful garden with a beautiful sight on the castle…
