Moroccan restaurant in centre

view from the terrace of the Moroccan restaurant

Don't order meals at the Moroccan restaurant on the bridge in the centre of the city. The food is not good for the price you pay for it. The location of the restaurant is excellent but that's it. Better visit another restaurant.

Trafic signs

Attention - wear a bra - max-90

How trafic signals can turn upside down and have a total different interpretation.
Maybe my fault but when i read this :
- I'm on a priority road
- It is obligated to wear a bra
- Maximum cup : 90

Unique Suggestions: I think that a cup 90 is bearable

Fun Alternatives: This "Tourist trap" is just for fun and found by coincidance on my way to work

What you see as you get off the tram.

All of the eateries near the tram stop for the Belfry tower are tourist traps. Prices are sky high and the food is not very good at all. Walk a bit off the main street to find a good place to eat.

Unique Suggestions: Don't try to eat a full breakfast here.

Fun Alternatives: Walk down a couple of side streets and you will see lots of small cafes for a decent breakfast.

Our original manneken in full glory

In fact it is not a tourist trap but a cultural discussion in Flanders. Which city has the most original "Manneke Pis"
-Brussels (look at my pages)
-Geraardsbergen (look at my pages)
-Ghent
No further discussion - Ghent of course - located at the Kraanlei in the historical center of Ghent, near the Castle of Counts

Fun Alternatives: Visit the three Mennekens
In the pictures
-The one in Brussels (the most famous one)
-The one in Geraardsbergen ( a copy - haha)
-The one in Ghent located at "de Kraanlei" - the original one

Tasting a KWAK

Tasting the famous belgian beers is an adventure in this pub.
To taste a "KWAK" - you have to put off and leave as warranty - a shoe in a basket - hanging on the ceiling.
"Max of the tavern - Take off your shoe"

Unique Suggestions: Be shure to wear some old shoes - like Pollon and Globetrott did - visiting my hometown.

Fun Alternatives: Have another beer - the choice is out of more than 250 beers.Irisbe can you tell all about it !
She tasted the most of them.

It's a disgrace

Isn't it typical, right in the middle of historic Korenmarkt the morally bankrupt golden arches brigade take a wonderful building and despoil it by turning it into a McDonalds. Quite why they think people will eat there when there are so many great restaurants and cafes around I don't know but I suppose they must get some trade.

Shame on you Mc Donalds.

Fun Alternatives: Go anywhere but don't go here.

Money Exchange

The banks I visited did not exchange U.S. Dollars for Euros. Therefore, either use an ATM or make your purchases via debit cards or credit cards. Make sure you exchange your money before you leave or find a low cost money exchange outlet while you're there. The U.S. Dollar is worth less in Europe (Belgium), so know that before you go.

Unique Suggestions: Again, check around for the cheapest exchange rate or use your credit/debit card. For example, while still in the USA (Airport), I exchanged $1,100 U.S. Dollars into Euros and received about 800 euros back. That will give you an idea of how much to exchange down the road.

Fun Alternatives: Use a Credit Card or Debit Card. My bank did not charge me any fees, however the amount deducted from your accounts will be higher than your purchase because of the exchange rate.

There's a tiny (claustrophobic, even) cafe in the 'Patershol' neighbourhood that's fun to see because it's full of bicycles (hanging from the ceiling) and antiques.
But I honestly think it's a bit overpriced...

De Dulle Griet has an impressive array of beer though it is pricey and service can be surly. If you order a mega-house beer, the waiter will take your shoe and hoist it to the ceiling in this net to ensure you don't steal the glass.

This restaurant is very dirty inside; it is overpriced for what you get and the quality of the food is not great.
Despite of the beautiful building, this restaurant is to avoid.
