Beersel Things to Do

  • Castle of Beersel - A medieval...

There is a comics trip (called over here "bande dessinée" or BD) on Beersel with the famous "Bob et Bobette" or "Suske en Wiske" (in Flemish) who competed with Tintin and Spirou in what we consider in Western Europe as an art. The hero of this historical comic strip is Lambik who does all the work as usual in the nearly 300 Suske en Wiske (Spike...

  • Castle of Beersel - History.

The site is very to access by car from Brussels.

Just take the ring to the Mons highway, then go South until the Beersel exit. Then follow the signs to the castle. There is a large free parking lot next to the site.

Tourists coming mainly from the bilingual, often plurilingual, Brussels will be surprised that, except for the opening hours, all notices, all historic explanations on the large panel at the entrance of the castle are only in Dutch (except the poem of Victor Hugo about the castle).

Well dear tourist, coming from Brussels you have crossed the linguistical border and Beersel is located in the unilingual Flemish part of Belgium.
The authorities of the Beersel district are for sure able to write in French, in English, probably also in German, but they won't write anything in these languages because they want to keep to the linguistical rules.
Is this a sound tourist marketing policy?

    www.lepetitmoutard.be/detail.asp?n=chateau-de-beersel&i=243&t=chateau-beersel

    ==========================

The staircases without any handrail are dangerous for the children and the seniors.
As a consequence of accidents visiting the castle with of groups of children is not allowed.
The covered way on the ramparts is also dangerous because of inequality of the pavement and the holes of the machicolations.

Dejections of pigeons accumulate on the upper floors of the three towers.

Le Roi d'Espagne was our last stop for a Julius or Alexander beer as we admired with the waiter what some members have purchased at the Beer Temple shop: a serious number of beers and glasses, trays and other wimsicles related surprisingly to belgian beers!

The hours passed and more beers and more discussions about beers were going on until only few members were left and got inside the estaminet at 3 o'clock in the morning. Geert was sleeping on the bar's counter but soon was asking what kind of beer he could serve. He didn't want to leave until he was sure nobody was in the estaminet anymore. Some of...
