    Lace Making,Brugge,West Flanders,Belgium.

Favorite thing: I couldn't believe how fast she was moving and seemingly not making any progress....its such a time consuming and intricate endeavor....making a lace something or other... : O ]

I'm the WRONG person to ask...all I know is that whatever she was making it was tiny ?

I stumbled across this lovely woman just down the street from the "Church of our Lady"...I think on Mariastratt....heading in the general direction of the Beguinage....she was set up in a doorway along the street and was surrounded by a small crowd...pretty difficult to miss actually..

The making of Lace will be linked to the history and present time of Brugge likely forever..I really don't profess to know much about Lace...but watching this lady do her thing was really unforgettable...

There are two main techniques practiced in the Flemish provinces of Belgium. The first, a needle lace, is still manufactured in in the region of Aalst. It is called Renaissance or Brussels lace because it is mostly sold in Brussels. The second type, the Bobbin Lace, is a specialty of Brugge. This lady is showing us how Bobbin Lace is made...

Watch for her if you have any interest in this fine skill or simply if you have an interest in seeing someone work a "magic"...

    ISN'T LACE ANY WOMAN'S FAVOURITE??

    BRUGGE'S LACE...

Favorite thing: I love visiting the "LITTLE LACE JEWEL", the
best place to go for FLEMISH LACE AND TAPESTRY CENTRE, a family TRADITION since 1895...

The name of the shop is: HET KANTJUWEELTJE, LACE JEWEL.....

Tapestry, splendor of weaving art, made in Belgium, brings warmth and cosiness in your house.

In the photo is THE OWNER OF THE SHOP MAKING HER JEWELS OF LACE and she does so after her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, isn't that impressive??

Fondest memory: LACE JEWEL offers you a rich choice of table-cloths, wedding veils, handkerchiefs, blouses, antique lace, tapestries and more, more..

LACEMAKING IS SHOWN EVERY DAY, EVEN ON SUNDAYS...

The shop is open: from 10AM - 18 PM

SKILL and PATIENCE are the MAGIC WORDS...
