Recommended by our hotel, and they were right! Arthies, located just off the main square, was a delightful experience. The food was exquisite and entertaining - delightful combinations of fresh, unexpected, and tasty ingredients - creative success! Each dish was better than the last. Thierry, the owner and chef, could not have been more cordial. The ambiance was charming, and the prices were quite reasonable. If only Thierry would open a restaurant in NYC! AND share his recipies!

Arthies: Great Mussels and service!

Mussels at Arthie's

We stumbled upon Arthie's while looking for a restaurant that served mussels and we're happy we did. Arthie's isn't all that big, about 12 tables in a two tier dining room, but Arthie himself makes up for that with his big personality. He has a nice varied menu but the key is the mussels in the variety of broths. I highly recommend the curry one and think the local beer broth one would also be great. Get the croquets as an appetizer and leave room for the Bordje Arthie's, a great smorgas board of a dessert that includes chocolate mousse, crepes, fruit and ice cream.

Favorite Dish: My favorite dish was the mussels with curry. The aroma when it arrived at the table was great and the mussels held onto the curry flavor nicely. I could have dipped bread into the broth long after I ate all the mussels.

Arthies! What can you say about this great restaurant, I have had the delight of having eaten here 5 times in the last year. My last visit was on the 28th December 2006, having spent the afternoon enjoying a festive Brugge it was time to eat. The restaurant looks warm and inviting from outside. Inside Thierry and Sophie make you feel like old friends meeting up again, the decor is wonderful, the menu is full of great dishes, choices of meat, fish and pasta to satisfy any pallet. When waiting for your meal to arrive at your table you can enjoy drinks, my favorite being the local white beer whilst. listening to Thierrys great choice of music. I cannot wait to eat there again! The Crazy Englishman.

Favorite Dish: Every dish I have eaten at Arthies has been great, but if I had to pick one dish it would be the Rack of Lamb served with a beer sauce. The lamb is always fresh and tender. the sauce is unusual but compliments the lamb perfectly. This dish is also served with great tasting vegtables and potatoes. A Winner!. If you have a sweet tooth I would have a Crepe for desert they are fantastic.

Set in the heart of the old town just of the main square Arthies has has good food, nice ambience and a great host and hostess in Arthie and his wife.

Favorite Dish: My Wife and I had Curried Mussels and a goat cheese salad. The salad in particular was excellent. Just don't ask Arthie for mayonaise with your fries or do and see his reaction. Also, check out the local beer called Zot.

The food in this restaurant is second to none - every dish that comes past you to other diners is the one you wished you'd order because every plate of food looks and smells exquisite.
Your hosts, Thierry (a cross between Billy Connolly and Dartanian) and Sophie, are very nice people and go out of their way to make your evening special.
Great food, great company, great value.

The Howell's highly recommend it.

Favorite Dish: All of them !

I would highly recommend Arthie's restaurant, it was the second visit to Brugge and the second visit to this restaurant. We have had an excellent meal both times and would not hesitate in recommending it to future visitors. The service was also first class with a lovely ambience.

Favorite Dish: The Brill was absolutely outstanding, its the most tastiest white fish dish I've had for a long time and also the nicest meal for a long time, bearing in mind we do eat out a lot.

This was our second trip to Brugge (Bruges) and we headed straight back, to Arthies. The food here on our first trip 18months ago was 1st rate, and some how it's gotten even better!

The eating experience at Arthies is a very relaxed one, but with fantastic food, great surroundings and friendly efficient staff.

Being just off the Martet square it is alittle pricey, but not expensive... once you taste the food you'll not care how much is costs ;-)

Favorite Dish: I had local Prawns in a Light Curry sauce for starter, followed by Arthies Fillet Steak and Iced Cream. My other half had Veal... all our dished were piping hot, just the right amount and delicious!

Arthies: A great restaurant !

Wandering the streets of Bruges for the first time one chilly day last week, we were increasingly in urgent need of lunch, and were beginning to get that sinking feeling that we'd have no choice but to settle for one of the usual & tacky tourist traps of the sort to be found in depressingly large (& expensive) quantities in any city centre.
But then... we stumbled upon Arthie's, and all our fears evapourated ! A great ambience, with clientele both local and foreign (like us), warm in every respect, discreet but not stuffy, and a very friendly welcome from the charming staff. The 'house red', a Cabernet Sauvignon from the south of France, was excellent and distinctly more-ish. As for the superb menu, my wife enjoyed a delicious and generous salad, whilst I devoured the excellent mussels & frites; when it came to dessert, we were simply unable to resist the (stunning) hot chocolate Sabayon -- which alone provides a good enough reason to re-visit Bruges at very regular intervals in the future.
All in all, an excellent experience, which fortified us sufficiently to return to our explorations of this truly enchanting city for the rest of the day. And such is our apparent lack of imagination (or perhaps the alluring quality of Arthie's cuisine) that we returned for lunch again the next day before reluctantly catching our train home.

Favorite Dish: The chocolate Sabayon

Arthies: The Arthey's visit Arthies

When we visited Brugge for a weekend break recently and were looking for a good place to eat dinner, we were so surprised to find a bistro restaurant named Arthies. It was situated just off the Market Square in the centre of the city. We were a party of four with a surname so similar that we could hardly avoid eating there. Mr. and Mrs. Arthie were amazed to find Dr. and Mrs. Arthey making a reservation for dinner. And we were so pleased that we did for we were warmly welcomed as we arrived and it was not just because of our name as we noted that other diners were similarly welcomed. The restaurant is small enough to ensure that everyone receives personal attention with a smile and a rapport is quickly established between host and guests. The patron, who served us, reminded us of the comedian Billy Connelly and he had a similar sense of humour, which made the evening really enjoyable.

Favorite Dish: We chose not to select a starter despite being sorely tempted. Our experience is that size of portions of main courses and desserts mean that including a starter can make us uncomfortably full by the end of the meal. A speciality of the house is mussels, which come in a variety of different ways. Meat dishes, some with beer sauces, included rack of lamb but we decided to order sole meunière for three of us, and Arthie’s pasta (a spicy spaghetti) for one. The fish, a favourite of ours, was excellent and was served with salad leaves and a separate dish of French fries. All this was accompanied by a wine from a list which was not long but contained a good selection of whites and reds. Of course, we had to try the Arthie’s house white which was most enjoyable. There was a good selection of desserts to complete the meal and again pancakes were a speciality of the house. Two of us chose pancakes, one a coupe caramel and one apple tart with ice cream and calvados. The portion of calvados was so generous that all four of us enjoyed the aroma as it wafted over the table and the taste was delicious.
We all agreed that we had had a great night out with excellent food served in pleasant surroundings with a very friendly atmosphere.
