"CELTIC IRELAND" is a unique Irish pub & restaurant concept in BRUGGE (a FIRST in EUROPE).
It is an independant family run establishment designed to the highest of traditional Irish standarts , decorated in a superbly imaginative way to bring our patrons an understanding and appreciation of the cultural heritage of ancient Ireland.
The name "Celtic Ireland" was conceived as an acknowledgement of some of the great monuments of early Irish civilization.
The magnificent interior, on numerous levels, was influenced by the Classic Gothic period of architecture and the beautifully carved wooden bar-back will leave a lasting memory!
The sculptured wall hangings are reflections on the Megalithic period of ancient Irish stone memorials. An elaborately adorned Celtic Cross hangs in its place of honour dominating the ground floor.
The major inspiration of the wall and ceiling hangings was the 'BOOK OF KELLS", the most spectacular of a group of manuscripts created in Ireland in the 7th and 8th Centuries.
It is a masterpiece of Medieval Art. The strange imagination displayed in the book, the impeccable techniques and the very fine state of its preservation make it an object of endless fascination.
You can see the BOOK OF KELLS in DUBLIN in the museum ..........see my Ireland and Dublin pages....
