Though this can’t miss pub is mostly noted as perhaps the premier beer emporium in all of Belgium, it can also now be regarded as a place to sample some of the country’s better cheeses and pates. While most cafes are content to serve up the ubiquitous bland cheeses Belgium is mistakenly known for, the Bear is giving it a go at giving the beer connoisseur something of quality with which to cleanse his palate.
Favorite Dish:
We had a fantastic plate of local cheeses with a nice hearty brown bread which not only greatly complemented our beers but enhanced our appreciation of them. We also sampled an equally great pate plate.
If you haven't been - go
If you are thinking of going - go
If you've been ... well you'll be going back - but go anyway!
Over 300 different beers all served in uniquely individual glasses. A very mixed crowd can have you sitting next to everything from a biker to a dentist or a drag queen.
I have had a good go at my liver all across this planet and there is only one other bar that comes close to this - and its in Hong kong.
See you there.
Favorite Dish:
None - beer.
There is really only one reason to come here. Where else are you going to find 300 quality Belgian beers!!
Back home Im not a lover of dull, small pubs but somehow this seems cosy and you imagine it to be typical of a Belgian bar (no idea if it is or not but still!!).
It is easy to miss the the bar (which, I believe means Bruges Little Bear) but it is well worth seeking out.
But remember, it is easy enough to get lost in the streets of Bruges, even easier with a few 8% beers inside you!!
They always say that it is a good sign if the locals visit and when I went there seemed to be as many (if not more) Belgians than any other nationality
Favorite Dish:
Although it offers food I didn't try any
Prefering instead to stick to the beer (-;
My tip is don't go for the Leffe, Duval etc you can pick those up in Asda these days.
Go for the more unusal ones perhaps one of the ones actually brewed in Bruges.
My particular favourites are the darker (Dunkle) beers
And, they do a cute little teddy beer too!
Beers are a lot cheaper than you would find in a pub in England (assuming you can find a pub in England selling decent Belgian beer)
2 bottles and a teddy came to 9 Euro which is about £6
This is not a restaurant, it is a typical belgian pub : Het Brugs Beertje
Favorite Dish:
One of the first things one notices when one drinks beer in Belgium is that every kind of beer is served in its own kind of glass. Also, in Belgium beer is served with a rim. This bar serves over 300 kinds of old-traditional brewed Belgian beers. The music in the background is classical. Locals and foreigners alike enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
Cosy atmosphere, the choices of beer are just great!
Favorite Dish:
Thank you Richie and Steve for this wonderful tip! This bar has 300 different beers to choose from and we tasted a few..... Don´t try the Banana Beer if you aren´t a Macho!
A bar, some bar snacks available, but the attraction here is the beer - hundreds to choose from - magnificent - I don't remember the train ride back to Brussels zzzzzzzz
