they say its the best way to see Bruges...
Well to be honest I was so excited to walk around Bruges that I totally forgot that this tip was highly recomended by other Vt members..
Until the moment I suddenly heard horse hooves coming closer through the narrow streets of Bruges. I was a bit jealous but then I forgot about it again while we continued our walk.
BUT I have to say.. if you want to "go around" Bruges in style you should try this form of transportation!!!

Rather than being cramped in with dozens of other tourists in a boat along the canals of Brugge, we decided the best way to get acquainted with the city, is through a horse-drawn carriage.
The ride lasts for one hour (with a 10 min. break in between for horsey feeding!), and costs 30 Euros.
The "driver" let's you choose which language you would like him to deliver his commentary, and he gives you a play-by-play discussion of the beautiful surroundings and the rich history of the city.
Warm, wool "snuggle" blankets are included in the package! ;-)

THE method of transport in Brugge is by horse drawn carriage. You see them in teh streets everywhere, even during winter. You pay for a carriage, not per person. A 30 minutes tour will cost about 25 Euros. A bit pricy, but you do get to see all the big attractions and must sees.

During the past few years traffic pressure in the historic inner city has been gradually reduced so as to preserve its unique heritage for locals and visitors alike.Traffic is funneled into five main one way arteries starting and exiting on the ring road.
Arriving by car, you will be able to use one of the five underground parkings (3.675 pl.) in the inner city or one of the parking lots alongside the ring road from where you will quickly reach downtown, walking or using one of the frequently operated bus lines.Cycling, too, is a most enjoyable way to get around in Bruges: cyclists are allowed to ride in both directions in more than 50 one way streets.
Finally, when arriving by train, our Tourist Office near the main exit of the railway station is at your service for tourist information and hotel bookings. The traffic circulation plan applied today in Bruges was designed to reduce traffic pressure in the inner city, so as to preserve the unique heritage you've come to enjoy.
Coaches are only allowed into the inner city only to drive clients to their hotel(s) and to pick them up again. Exceptions to this rule are within the exclusive competence of the local police authorities (Hauwerstraat 3, tel. 32(0)50/448844).
Coach drivers are offered free parking space at the "Katelijnebrug"-coach park (map: F14) with a total capacity of 140 coaches, and facilities such as toilets and telephone. Frequent city bus services are operated between coach park and city centre.
For other special facilities (a/o. emptying of coach toilets) adequate services are proposed by "Eltebe" (Lieven Bauwensstraat 41, 8200 St.-Andries, tel. 32(0)50/32.01.11, fax 31.32.65).
Finally, the coach park is an ideal departure point for city walks with local guides

By train - all trains from Brussels to the coast stop in Brugge.
By foot. The town centre is very compact and full of things to see. Otherwise, go on a horse and carriage sightseeing tour. They start in Grote Markt and have a water break for the horses at Minnewater - so you can take photos :-))) Costs about 25 Euro for a carriage for 1-5 persons.

These Horse and buggies are a very good thing , not every body coming to Brugge is 20 years old and walks 10 miles a day.
So here is the answer. A ride around Brugge in style and a tour guide to tell you all about
what you are experiencing.you will feel like Royalty.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides. Besides a canal boat trip another great way of seeing Brugge is by horse drawn carriage. These are available from the Market Square and the cost is 1,000 BEF per carriage. The driver is your guide and he will give you a running commentary during your trip. The trip last 35 minutes with a short stop at the Beguinage where the horses have a drink of water which the driver gets from a pump in the shape of a horses head.

Horse and carriage seems to be a fun and romantic way to see the city. You can see them carrying along couples especially on a cold a rainy day.
