Bus 43 goes from Bruges station (it stops at T'Zand too) to Damme plats (town square). It's an interesting journey in itself, taking you through Bruges to the Dampoort and onwards to Damme.
You can buy tickets from the driver: mine cost 2.70 euros one-way in July 2008. The journey takes around 20 minutes.
If you have time, travelling out on the bus and walking back (or vice versa) would be a lovely way to visit Damme: it's about 7km from Bruges.
Being driven at speed on a cobbled surface is a particularly interesting aspect of the journey! :-)
Bus timetables are displayed at bus stops. Services to Damme are not too frequent, but frequent enough to make it an easy trip out of Bruges.
Feel like going to Brugge by boat?
The trip takes 40 minutes, for a distance of 5 (!) kilometers.
Still the boat is a succesful attraction.
Take in account that this boat won't take you to the Grand Place in Brugge, but to the Dampoort. After this, it's still a 30 minutes walk to the center.
Personally I would even prefer walking to the center of Brugge, which would take me 1 hour...but ther must be something to suit all tastes.
Of course it's also possible to rent a bike in Damme for about 10euros/ day. The distance to Brugge would take only 15 minutes.
PD. Want to know what the name "Lamme Goedzak "means? --> "Lame (slow) softy person!" ;-)
From April until the end of September, the Lamme Goedzak Steam Wheeler travels 5 times a day between Bruges and Damme. A single trip takes 35 minute.
The landing stage in Bruges is Noorweegse Kaai 31 and in Damme: Damse Vaart Zuid 12. It's a pleasant trip along the Flemish green flatland, the "Polders".
Leave those stinking poluting cars in your garage!
Take the train or any public transportation and rent a bicycle!
If you are with a group, then I would advice you to contact the tourist information office whereas they could give you good advice about guided bicycles tours in the area.
I made a terrific tour last Sunday (25th of May 2003).
We rented the bicycles and kidnapped an outstanding comedian entertaining guide at "quasimundo" (guided bicycle tours of Brugge and the Flemish countryside).
They offer different kind of tours at different kind of prices.
I can assure you it is just great fun to be able to do this with a group of friends (or family)!
Don't hesitate! Try, you won't regret!
Better than by horse taxi is crossing the country by rented bike

Damme is an easy half-day trip when you're in Brugge. Along the Damse Vaart canal it's only 6 km which is a short bike ride or a nice walk, whatever you prefer.
A boat trip at the Lamme Goedzak will bring you from Bruges to this charming town Damme.
