Irish Cross - The Munster War Memorial
In the shadow of St Martin's Cathedral you find this Munster War memorial.
Coming from the Grote Markt, you can also reach this location by taking the gate besides the City Hall.
This War memorial commemorates the fallen soldiers from the province of Munster (capital: Cork). This is for the 16th Irish division and refers to the battle of June 7th 1917.
A second Irish Cross can be seen in Wijtschate (in the Kemmelstraat).

Now we are standing behind the Cathedral and the Lakenhal and walk away from the last mentioned. In the green in the North-Eastern corner of the cathedral one will find a Celtic Cross standing. This is the memorial honouring the Irish that fell in the Ieper Saillant between 1914 and 1918. They were from the province Munster (around Cork).
