123km from the capital of Belgium Brussels, 77km from Gent, 70km from Brugge.
We drove there from Ghent, we parked in the city, just 3’ walk from the central square. There are parking machines but the fare isn’t high.
You can easily walk around the city so there’s no need for the car or taxi etc
By train
You can reach Ieper by train from many cities in Belgium, the ride from Brussels will take about 90’. The train station is just a few minutes walk to the city center where all the sites are. The train station has some lockers if you want to leave your luggage for some hours.
By bus
There are bus connections with major town (Ghent, Brugge etc) but also many local buses that will take you to near by villages and towns

When you are in the central areas of Ieper, it will quickly become apparent how small the city is. You can easily walk around and through it in a matter of hours.
If you pick up a tourist map at the stations or the information office, you can easily walk the city on a self-guided tour. There are lots of markers and labels around the town and parks that direct you.
If you go outside of the city, for example to the cemeteries, you must either have your own vehicle or navigate the bus systems.
