a little beauty squeezed between the big ugly ones

Favorite thing: ... because, like in the most Belgium cities at the coast, the buildings along the river frontage are very ugly. There are only a few old and beautiful buildings left which hide between the big and ugly ones ... But anyway the beach and the sea is so great who wants to see building! :-))

Favorite thing: It's not exactly the French Riviera, but the beach in Oostende is a wide and sandy place that on a sunny day, could be quite enjoyable. However, this is the North Sea, so you can expect cold water and gusty winds at any time throughout the year.

Favorite thing: Oostende, also called the “Queen of the Belgium Seaside Resort” offer four beaches; Oosterstrand (Eastern beach), Klein Strand (Small Beach), Groot Strand (Great Beach) or also called Westerstrand (Western Beach), Mariakerkestrand (Mariakerke Beach) and Raversijdestrand (Raversijde Beach). At the beginning of the 9th century was Oostende an unimportant fishing town. Later it became a very important fishing port and nowadays it is one of the most tourist spots on the Belgium coast.

Fondest memory: I just love our Belgian North Sea coast. Especially in the wintertime. Then it's also less crowed.

Even in november you can have nice & sunny (but very cold) days.

On the photo : the sea, the beach and the dunes just outside Oostduinkerke-Bad (halfway between De Panne and Nieuwpoort).

Fondest memory: A jewel among the Belgian coast-towns is De Haan.
It is the only place along the coast where you don't see these ugly high apartment buildings while walking on the beach.

You'll find a lot houses in this typical Belle-Epoque style.

    Ostend beach

Favorite thing: Oostende has a beautiful and wide beach. It's nice to stroll along the coastline when the sun goes under.

Fondest memory: My first VT meeting. Don't forget to watch my travelogue for the unforgetable day we had.

Favorite thing: On the pier end you see the small wooden building of the Tide Signal Office which is responsible for all signals for incoming and outgoing harbour traffic. It's also a favourite spot for anglers.
