Harbour / Docks, Oostende
Favorite thing: Ostend is 'The City on the Sea'. It became popular just before the 1900's and a lot of the architecture reflects this. Ostend has literally everything - its own beaches, a world famous casino and racecourse, and outstanding shopping. Nightlife, as you would expect in a major resort and city, is excellent - many bars close when the last person has left and there is a selection of nightclubs and discotheques to choose from. You can get anywhere on the coast from here by tram, and Brugge is less than 15 minutes away by rail.
Fondest memory: Actually...I recall walking way out onto the stone-stacked jetty and watching the waves crash over it..thinking how many thousands of Europeans had holiday'd here and had the same feeling of vastness I did looking back toward England.
Favorite thing: On the pier end you see the small wooden building of the Tide Signal Office which is responsible for all signals for incoming and outgoing harbour traffic. It's also a favourite spot for anglers.
Favorite thing: At five minutes walk (well to be honest about everything is at 5 minutes walk!) you get to the harbour of the fishermen.
