For those with an interest in Second World War history one of the best preserved sections of Hitler's coastal defence, the Atlantik Wall, is to be found just outside Oostende. This was a series of connected gun emplacements, bunkers and barracks which stretched the whole of the coastline from Norway down to Spain in order to repel the threatened Allied invasion.
At Ravesijde, a couple of kilometres down the coast from the city, is a two kilometre section of this Atlantik Wall with much of its original construction intact including the guns themselves. The museum is open from April until November and it is recommended that visitors give it a whole day to fully appreciate the scale and detail of the site.
The pics here were taken from the Kusttram.
