This church is famous for its wooden choir of the 13th century. It is the oldest wooden construction of the province of "West-Vlaanderen". The choir is in the early gothic style. The original chapel of Saint Walburga was build in the year 870 and later replaced by this amazing church. Certainly worth a visit.

The Pulpit
The oak pulpit dates from 1727, and is of the hand of Hendrik Pulincx the Old.
He portrays o. a. the apostle Johannes, that on the island Patmos the "Book of the Revelation" schijft.
Above him, you see an excerpt from the Apocalyps.

Santa-Walburga church
The church Santa-Walburge is at the origin the chapel of the Chateau count dedicated to the Holy Mary.
From the first crusade, about 870, relics are brought back to Santa Walburge and its brothers towards this chapel, probably by Diederick van of Alsace.
The popular devotion growing for these relics brought the construction of a Roman church with Holy Walburge as patronizes.

A partir de la première croisade, vers 870, des reliques sont ramenées de Sainte Walburge et ses frères vers cette chapelle, probablement par Diederick van de Alsace.
La dévotion populaire grandissante pour ces reliques amena la construction d'une église romane avec Sainte Walburge comme patronne.

The Organ
The organ dates from 1743-1745, and is of the hand of Jean-Godfroid Gobert and Joseph Bosquet from Lille (France).
After the French revolution in the period 1809-1814, repeated organ pipes were stolen. In 1840 followed a restored olv. Pieter Van Petegem.
A further restoration followed in 1966-1967 through the firm Loncke from Esen.

The choir stalls are of 1596 and attributed to Otmaar of Ommen

A sculpture of Georges Grard
"Femme regardant le Soleil" ( Woman looking the sun) : it is a sculpture that you can find in the park of Veurne.
The author: Georges Grard, been born to Tournai the November the 11th 1901 and dead to Sint-Idesbald the September 11th 1984.
His work is composed principally of "naiads" some tans.
It lived practically all his life to some kilometres of Veurne. It exists a foundation organizing expositions and managing the museum to his name to situated Gijverinkhove to some kilometres of Veurne

La sculpture: "Femme regardant le Soleil" est visible dans le parc communal.
L'auteur: Georges Grard est né à Tournai (Hainaut, Belgique) le 11 novembre 1901 et est mort à Saint Itesbald le 11 septembre 1984.
Son œuvre est constitué principalement de Naïades (femmes nues)
Il vécu pratiquement toute sa vie à quelques kilomètres de Furnes. Une fondation à son nom organisant des exposition et gérant un musée à son nom situé à Gijverinkhove, à quelques km.

In early Gothic, she never completely was finished. His current state dates back to the beginning of the XXth century.
This is more the Gothic one a unique example of area.
Classified since 1938. The choir dates back to the 13th/14th century.

Let you go to imagine the same places in the XVII century.
Not so difficult if you look around you.

Way to the Park
To go to the park from the Grote Markt nothing of simpler one: In the corner of the Grote Markt, between the city hall and the office of tourism, you will find a passage under the buildings.
It takes you right to the heart of the park where is located the bust of Delvaux and the sculpture of Grard

Pour se rendre au parc communal, rien de plus simple: Dans le coin de la Grand Place, entre l'hôtel de ville et l'office du tourisme, vous trouverez un passage sous les bâtiments.

Het Landhuis
This is the former country house of the castle house of Veurne. Constructs in 1613-1621, of style renaissance, to the manner of the high pure Italian renaissance (architect Sylvain Boullain).
It employed here the Arquennes rock instead of the employed bricks normally in the constructions of the region. Notice the pillars in the façade, so to the ground floor that to first floor.
The statues represent Peace and Justice. In fact, the building was use as court even the years 1990.

C'est l'ancienne maison de pays de la chatellenie de Veurne. Les constructions datent de 1613-1621, de conception renaissance, à la manière de la haute renaissance italienne pure (l'architecte Sylvain Boullain).
Il a employé ici la pierre d'Arquennes au lieu des briques employées normalement dans les constructions de la région. Remarquer les piliers de la façade, au rez-de-chaussée qu'au premier étage.
