Belgium is famous for chocolate, amazing medieval cities, frites, an incredible variety of beer and last but not least waffles. I remember my first one in Brussels on the street. It was cold and pretty tasteless. I was disappointed to say the least. D had a similar experience in Bruges when we got one from a street vendor that was only a tad better than my first. Needless to say she was not impressed. When in Ieper in the main market square I smelled something sweet and headed right towards it. I saw some waffles being made fresh on the spot and we ordered some even though we'd just had a big meal. Boy, we were glad we did. It was a nice chewy hot waffle, with just the right amount of sweetness to make it quite quaffable. So, keep your eyes out for the famous Belgian waffle, but keep your nose out too.
