Favorite thing: The beach in Zeebrugge, as well as the whole Belgium cost, is perfect for long walks.
As you can see on the picture Zeebrugge is also one of the few cities at the Belgium coast which has not only the ugly buildings at the sea front! Well, there are some but not only. Insteat there is the huge and important harbour ...
Fondest memory: I spent an unforgattable day at the sea and decided to come back next year!

Fondest memory: If you visit Zeebrugge for the Sand Sculpture, you should also spend some time on the beach. It's one of the widest beaches at the Belgian Coast with lovely beach cabins. Here you will not find the mass tourism as you do find in the other coast towns, so it's nice and relaxing to spend some time here. There's an area for kids to play and a building with toilets.

Favorite thing: After WWI, Zeebrugge used to be a famous Belgian vacation destination for the English. Nowadays, it has lost a lot of its glory due to the expansion of the sea harbour.
It still has a small boardwalk with some shops and eateries and a nice building in English style dating from the previous century.

Favorite thing: "Bruges-on-Sea" is a busy seaport and Belgium's only coastal deepwater port. There's always a lot of activity going on, container ships, fishing boats, ferries coming from England and even cruise ships all dock in this port.

Favorite thing: Zeebrugge - the second most important harbour of Belgium - located between Knokke and Ostende.
Zeebrugge is in fact a container terminal receiving vessels of more than 4000 ton.!
Zeebrugge is important for transit of Cars
- Toyota/Mercedes and HONDA.
But the yearly event of sandsculptures is an
important highlight for local tourism.
Fondest memory: The mass tourism is limited because there is not that many things to see - except this festival (in competition with Blankenberge and a yearly festival called Polé Polé.

Fondest memory: Summertime and Beaches
In the summertimes we would spend longer in Zeebrugge and enjoy sunbathing and swimming on the beautiful sandy beaches, then take a later ferry back home.
Hopefully, one day, the service will be in operation again as I know many of the friends I made miss the fun we all had.

Fondest memory: Honorary Bridge Visit
For 4 years we would meet up every 2 weeks and sail over to Zeebrugge and take the tram to Brugge and shop around. It was always fun, with unexpected things happening all the time. Sadly this was our last trip and we were invited by the ship's captain to visit the bridge and take the ship out of Zeebrugge harbour. We spent 2hrs learning about navigation and radar.
The most memorable trip I have ever experienced.

Fondest memory: Walkabout
Here is my best friend Jean having a great time. She is like a mother to me. She lives in my home town and we always went to Zeebrugge together. She always bought me a small box of belgian chocolates and I always bought her some belgian biscuits!

Fondest memory: Cheap Fares!
I used to travel to Zeebrugge every 2 weeks with a group of friends and spend the day over there shopping and siteseeing. For just £1.00 return fare we could sail over on the night Ferry from Felixstowe (10 miles from where I live) as foot passengers, and have a great evening on the ship. We would arrive the following morning, and off we would go and have fun!
Many senior citizens took advantage of the low fares and took regular trips from Felixstowe (Suffolk) to Zeebrugge. They always enjoyed themselves and were great fun to be around.

Fondest memory: Important Port of Call
Bruges and Ostend did remain the only two seaports of the southern Netherlands for two centuries. Bruges was then linked to the sea through the Bruges-Ostend canal. At the end of the 19th century the Belgian government decided to build a new port on the coast of the North Sea and the work started in 1896 and lasted until 1905. The port was then inaugurated in 1907 and was baptized 'Zeebrugge' (Bruges-by-the-sea). In the period from 1960 till 1970 various works were carried out, like the construction of new port terrains and the building of various terminals. In the period of 1970 up to now the most important extension works were carried out - the construction of two long breakwaters, the building of extensive new quay terrains, the construction of deepwater quays, and the extension of the inner port. Both parts of the new port were linked to each other through the construction of a sealock for large vessels (up to 175.000 tdw). The new port of Zeebrugge was inaugurated by King Baudouin in 1985. Recently, especially the construction of a new container terminal (FCT) in the new western outer port has been of great importance for the future expansion of the port. Zeebrugge is one of the few ports in Western Europe that can receive the biggest container vessels. With all this expansion came the closure of the regular Ferry service for car and foot passengers.
