    Smallest beguinage in
    Belgium

Anderlecht has this particular beguinage that is attached to La Coll?giale. The first building was in 1252, for 8 women. That makes it the smallest beguinage in Belgium. The building of nowadays (made up with two aisles) are from 16th and 17th centuries, La Coll?giale herself being built in 16th.

The beguinage is now a municipality museum. You'll learn there about local archeology, religious art and history of this millenial municipality.

Haven't visited the beguinage, yet. When I intended to do so, I saw a big dog in the garden, didn't want to bother him. Next time !!

Cannot remember the name of this cobblestoned street. It is off La Collégiale, check pic 1.. you can even the see the church's spire from this street...
But it was surprising to see some art (forgery, sometimes) and read some poetry in this street. Well, its physical appearance, the serenity of the place gives it a small countryside village flair... but in fact, it's in Anderlecht. Far from the tourist track but still urban...

Some Picassos copies... or looklikes... or forgery. I didn't linger much time on those art (forgery) pieces... The poetry was my favourite..

The one I liked was this "Sprechen ist silber. Schweige ist gold" translated as in French "La parole est du temps, le silence de l'eternité". For who understand French, you'd be interested in reading their explanation about it... or read the plaque on picture 3

  • "Home is where I feel good"
    Erasmus
    by Norali, 2 more photos
Was there only one thing I could do in Anderlecht that day, it would be to squat the surprising philosophical garden at the Erasmus House. To nip over a boat to another. It was really a place where to meditate, in peace, over those free-thinking Erasmus maxima... It was great to be hoisted up by your own thoughts, fruits of your meditation, to another sphere: of acceptance of others, of differences, of world vision... a move that is all triggered by the maxima which are nested in the boats...
And sometimes in your stroll in the middle of the boats, you have a halt... just to listen to the birds, to "smell the rose"...

**I'm a citizen of the world, my homeland is everywhere, or rather, I am foreigner to everyone.** That's Erasmus. I have to admit, though, that I would stick to the first & third affirmations... I still cannot consider "everywhere" as my homeland.. and as I haven't been to everywhere yet, I cannot say I feel good everywhere.. Still, "Home is where I feel good" (or "where the heart is" ?).

Great Erasmus, the first "European" spirit ever & a seasoned traveller... to name but a few qualificatives.
