Markets & Flea Markets, Brussels
These street markets are located near Place Agora, very close to the bronze statute of Burgomaster Chaeles Buls and his dog. There are a number of stalls selling everything from lace to imitation glass of beer.
It is very colourful as you walk by late afternoon, stop and have a coffee and watch the world go by.
From the beginning of December and that during one month, Brussels is into a christmassy atmosphere. Around the Place Ste Catherine, Marché aux Poissons and also around the Stock Exchange, you can find hundreds of stalls selling christmass articles. You can also taste some delicious Belgian wafles and enjoy a ride on the giant wheel (from which you have a magnificent view of the X-mass market), or the carroussel.
Don't miss the sound and lighting show on the Grand Place either, it's magnificent!
It was a sprightly spring day when Gillian and Guy took us for a walk through Brussels. So many people took advantage of the fine weather, along with this group of musicians/singers we found in the Market Square. And of course where you have music you will find people dancing to it, brightening up the atmosphere considerably.
Even in the dead of winter, even when it's damp and possibly snowflurrying, you can find at least a small patch of vendors with amazing blooms for sale. The color blasts are a welcome sight indeed when everything else around you is grey with a capital G!
DE MAROLLEN is a poor neighbourhood, however with a rich atmosphere and community sense.
The residents are considered "a bit different" - something like the London COCKNEYS - with an own dialect and an endearing honesty.
The famous FLEAMARKET is on the PLACE DU JEU DE BALLE from 7 AM til 2 PM, so take care that you are in good time, there is a lot to see.
There are pink, blue and yellow painted houses and shops.....
In this neighbourhood are many, many little eateries where you can have soup and meals for a decent price and everything is very clean.......and atmospheric.....
If you are in Brussels for Christmas, you can profit to visit them! and to try a glass of vin chaud à la canelle! For the ones who were born on the south hemisphere, is crazy to see this in winter!
