There are many shops and boutiques selling BELGIAN LACE. Many are located near the Grand Place. You can find beautiful handmade lace tablecloths, doilies and wedding veils. The prices may range from inexpensive to very expensive, depending on the size and craftmanship of the item.

I'm crazy about Belgium. That's where I've found my future wife.
She took me to the lace store to buy her wedding veil and a handmade lace tablecloth. I was afraid thinking this would be really too expensive and to 'girly'.
But honestly, the ladies are nice, patient and lace suddenly started to get interesting for me. It's amazing how this is made !
Well I'm not able to explain all this, but if you're in Brussels you should take some time to visit this little store on the Grand-Place. I'm sure you will learn a lot and perhaps you'll start also to appriciate this handcraft.

What to buy: anything for the table or for a wedding.
I'll probably go back for the baby next year if god bless us !

What to pay: All price ranges, but I was surprised the wedding veil was much cheaper as expected

My little Jennifer at her christening

My parents are Belgian. I was born in Ireland and life in Dublin.
Last week we have made a family visit to Brussels. I wanted my husband and children to know where they come from.
My mum was surprised to see the store she bought a christening gown for me is still existing.
It's incredible. They are probably the last real Belgian lace producers. Other store only sell cheap copies from China.
I even used the christening gown my mother bought for my children.

Really a place to visit !!! and the ladies are soo kind and helpfull

What to buy: lace : tablecloth, handkerchiefs, doilies, christening gowns, wedding veils, antiques,......

antique lace : museum quality laces and fans
unique gifts like unique pieces of jewellery in silver, dolls, wedding rings pillow....

What to pay: The most wonderfull about this shop is that I was looking for small gifts less then $5 and they had some.

    Shopping area

A small shop in the gallery - but very attractive to visit.

What to buy: Brussels Lace of course. Is it comparable with Lace of Bruges? - better - more expensive - i do not know - but maybe you can tell me !!

What to pay: It is the touristic area of Brussels - so Visa or AA will do it !

One of belgium's specialty and a good souvenir to have are LACES...there are many lace shops in Brussels which I go and to buy sometimes for friends giveaways and keepsake, a lot of choices! I'm sure you can find what you want from designs to sizes.
Many shops of laces are around the Grand Place area, you won't get lost..there are many shops to choose on this touristy place.

What to buy: Beatifully hand made lace of Belgium! I'm sure a typical souvenir from the country.

What to pay: Prices varry to design and sizes!

    Various: Chocolate, Lace tablecloths, Tapestries

by CLillard Updated May 22, 2003 209 reviews

Shops are generally open from 10am to 6-7pm from Monday to Saturday

What to buy: I am not necessarily a chocolate lover, but this is the best chocolate I ever had. I'm not talking about those flat candy bars. I'm talking about the homemade ones in the shop, you buy it by the pound. That was awesome!

Also I bought some handmade lace tablecloths for my friends at a small shop. Now I wish I would have bought one for myself too!

There was a huge tapestry shop and I should have bought one of those. My thinking at the time was that they were expensive, but since then I have compared to others and they were actually a good price. I have also learned that most of the good tapestries in the world were made in Belgium. Everytime I'm touring a castle in another country, they always have tapestries on the wall that are from Belgium.
