The parallel between the Eiffel Tower in paris in amazing. The were bothe built for Universal Exhibitions, were both supposed to be dismanteld after the closure of the exhibition and now make the proudness of the inhabitants. The Atomium was almost fallen into a mess couple of years ago. However, passionates managed to convince politicians to free budget to renew it totally. It has now refound its past glory and is for sure a must see in Brussels Entrance fee 2008 : 9 € (adults); 6 € (students, seniors & kids) Leave a Comment

by heryanta Mini-Europe is located at the Atomium complex - and is a fun place to take kids to. It has miniature models of European landmarks, and some of which are interactive and have moving elements. The park is rather small - it take about an hour to go through it so you can wrap it around a trip to the Atomium itself. They are open daily from 9.30am to 6pm; and in the summer to 8pm Ticket cost Euro 12 for adults, small children can enter for free (they have a rather peculiar rule, based on height rather than age so children under 1.2m can enter for free).

by rcsparty The Bru-park is an entertainment center that contains 'mini-Europe', which is scale model replicas of European landmarks. It also has plenty of cafes and restaurants. This area was surprisingly enjoyable. I thought the replicas were very cool. It also contains a cineplex with 26 screens and an Imax theatre. It was an easy ride on the metro from downtown. Seems touristy, but well worth the visit. Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Heizel/Heysel

This strange looking structure was built for the 1958 World Fair and is probably, (along with the Grand Place), the most identifiable symbol of Brussels. It was designed by Andre Waterkeyn to replicate an iron atom magnified 165 billion times. Each of the nine spheres are 18m (60ft) in diameter and are linked by esculators. The Atomium was re-opened for visits on February 18th 2006 after more than a year of renovation. You can take a lift up to the top sphere where the views over the Heysel area and city centre are pretty good. Open: 10am-6pm daily. Admission: €7,00. Leave a Comment

by codrutz Looking at this picture might be misleading, this is not the real City Hall but the miniature one in Mini Europe - one of the must see of Brussels - in the Brupark near the Atomium. The hall is in fact taller than a human, and the Grand Place is pictured during the flower carpet festival. Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Heizel/Heysel

Conceived by engineer Andre Waterkeyn for the international exhibition of 1958, the Atomium is a halfway building between the sculpture and the architecture, symbolizing a molecule crystallized of iron to the scale of its atoms, enlarged 160 billions of time. Of all times, the men wanted to express their desire of elevation architecturally. more especially, the Atomium embodies the audacity of one time that wanted to confront the destiny of the humanity with the scientific discoveries. The nine big spheres joined between them by tubes that compose the Atomium have been arranged according to the configuration of a cubic system centered. Entirely in steel donned of aluminum, the building dominates the tray of the Heysel to 102 meters of height and rest on three gigantic bipodes. The Atomium was not destined to survive the international exhibition of 1958. But its popularity and its successes made a major element of the landscape from Brussels of it. Leave a Comment
