This tower was designed by the Belgian architect Henri Beyaert (1823-1894) to show the technical possibilities of the stone of Tournai (Belgian city in Province 'Hainaut').
The construction alternates layers of bricks and stones.

The monument to the Congo (1911-1921) is typical of the colonial spirit.
In the lower section, a young black man symbolises the river Congo. On his right, a Belgian soldier is sacrifying for his condemned captain. On his left, another Belgian soldier is overcoming a slave dealer.
In the middle section, the african continent advances towards a group of soldiers around Leopold II, King of Belgium.
Above, a young lady symbolising Belgium, is receiving the black race.

This is a very big museum.. there is so much to see! It is arts and archeology since the egyptians up to medieval passing by the chinese and indians . You have cars, the one that were with the hourses, you have laces.. they show you how to do it and some beautiful dresses. You can't take pictures inside... but you have so much to see with you eyes.. This is one of my favorites in town. :D And you have some very good expositions. You've got to go!!

This a museum with cars ;) It is 5 euros per adult and 3.70 euros for students. If you love cars.. go ahead I think you'll have great fun in it. But if you don't... try the other two museums.. (army or art and history)
You have there all the collection cars. I think it is a very nice museum.

This is a very nice park with a beautiful arc in the middle with a huge flag. This is a place where all the people come to party for the Belgium's day and for the special events. There is a concentration of 3 museums: The Army museum, the Autoworld and the Art and History museum. This is worth the detour :D

The Cinquantenaire is similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is not as big as the one in Paris but can be seen from a distance in neighbouring areas. The Cinquantenaire is made up to three arches compared to one in Paris. The Cinquantenaire also has two museums on its sides. The Automobile Museum and the War Museum. The Automobile Museum has a beautiful selection of old cars. The war museum has different sections on battles and wars from a couple hundred years ago to wars in the 20th century. Its also a big park where you can go for a walk, its a beautifull area

The roof is the limit!
Parc du Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark is a complex of several musea.
It was built to commemorate the 50 year of independence of Belgium by Leopold II.
Here you have a plenitude of museums. When we had our 30th November 2003 meeting in Brussels, Norali and Peter_P took us up the roof of the Triumph gallery.
If you enter the army museum, you just need to go to the left around the corner, take the elevator and a few stairs up and you have a remarkable look over the roofs of Brussels near this park.
What is even more interesting is that it is free!
So why wouldn’t you go?
Do you recognize all the VT members on this picture?

Here you have a plenitude of museums. When we had our 30th November 2003 meeting in Brussels, Norali and Peter_P took us to the exhibition of Vietnam. Very interesting.
Helas… we were not allowed to take any pictures inside the museum.
Although Flemis and French are mostly spoken, this website is not in German, our third official national language, neither is it in English nor Spanish, languages managed by many foreigners.
It is a shortcoming I believe and an example of narrow minded behaviour. If Brussels wants to be metropolitan, then it should act like it!
At least I hope you can try to find out what the website is about and how to retrieve the information needed about the exhibitions.
So traveler and German speaking compatriot, accept my apologize for the ignorance of some Belgians, they should know better.

For the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence in 1880, King Leopold II commissioned the creation of this park and its grandiose triumphal arch.
Today, you can visit some of its museums, Autoworld and the Jubelpark Museum, or you can rest on the plush lawn and admire the solemn manor houses. The Great Mosque and the Temple of Human Passions (Victor Horta's first monument) can also be found here.
Every year on July 21st, on the occasion of National Festival Day, there is an evening fireworks display. Jubelpark is an idyllic spot for everyone.
