    this park was built to commemorate the independence of Belgium and is a quiet and relaxing way to spend your afternoons... i love sitting on the grass and watching dogs run around...mini football matches...basking in the sun...one of my favourite places in Brussels:)

    This photo was taken from the Hop On Hop Off bus as we drove past the park.

    The triumphal arch was built in 1880 to celebrate 50 years of Belgian independence.

    The rooms are now used for museums.

    The Cinquantenaire is a smaller version of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and it can be seen from neighbouring areas. This version has three arches compared to Paris’ one. There are also two museums on the sides, the Automobile Museum and the War Museum.

    The ´arch of victory´ dominates the Royal museum of art, the National Army museum and Autoworld, the largest museum of the world with classic cars.

    Museum of arts and history.
    Hours: from 9.30am untill 17pm.
    This museum has an important collection of art objects from different civilizations from all over the world.
    It offers an overview of history of mankind in the five continents(with the exclusion of Black Africa) from the prehistoric times until today.

    The Royal Museum of the Army and Military History is located in one of the buildings of the Cinquantenaire Park and contains about one hundred thousand items. This collection makes the museum rank among the top military museums in the world.
    Here one can see the development of offensive and defensive weapons from the 8th until the 19th century.Hand weapons, experimental models, gunsmith's equipment, automatic machine guns. This section runs until the mid-20th century and also equipment, photos, documents, armoured tanks.The 'Air' section
    In one of the larger halls, a collection of 130 airplanes can be seen . Special attention is given to the airplanes of the period around the second World War as used by the Luftwaffe and the Allied Forces: Hurricanes, Spitfires, Mosquitos, etc. Also on display: Jet planes, Gloster Meteor, F 104 G, a Swedish Draken, Dakota, C-119, Pembroke, etc.
