Guldenswaene: Very tasty food in an old restaurant

by omehes

We have dined in this old restaurant almost everytime we visited Antwerpen and have never been disappointed. An old house on Hendrik Conscienceplein street in the old town with small tables in a tiny place (and low ceiling on the first floor). Very tasty and rich food, simple but nice serving, affordable prices. Find it and try the food. You not gonna regret!

Café Leffe: Hearty Belgian food with a Leffe

by Museeuw

In a lot of places in Belgium you can find a Café Leffe. I've been to several already and you simply can't go wrong. The food, mostly typical Belgian, is really good and you can enjoy it in a nice atmosphere and with a good Leffe beer (or any other drink of course). Just to say: you simply can't go wrong with going to a Café Leffe. I don't know if this list is complete, but you have a Café Leffe in: Blankenberge (Kerkstraat 26), Brugge ('t Zand 5), Brussels (Grote Zavel 46), Charleroi (Boulevard Joseph Tirou 73), Diest (Grote Markt 24), Eeklo (Markt 2), Gent (Botermarkt 11), Knokke (Zeedijk 564), Kortrijk (Grote Markt 3), Leuven (Bondgenotenlaan 20A), Oostende (Wapenplein 10), Turnhout (Grote Markt 72) and Dinant (Rue Sax 2). One of my favourites is Flemish 'carbonnades', prepared with Leffe beer.

From September to March: Mussels and Fries

by DanielF

Mussels and fries are arguably the favourite Belgian delicacy with tourists. Actually, the mussels are brought from the Dutch province of Zeeland and only available in Autumn and Winter (months with an "R"). They are small in size and not very savoury by themselves, so they are always accompanied by some kind of broth. Sometimes they may have an unpleasant leathery consistence. They are served in almost every brasserie with traditional Belgian fare and there are tenths of different ways to prepare them. Of them, the most popular is called à la marinière, i. e. with a white wine based sauce, shallots and parsley. Celery, leek, garlic, cream, beer and many other ingredients may be added to the concoction. They are served in a large pot accompanied with fries and mayonnaise, which do not really match the flavours, but that is the way it is.

Het "Keteltje": A perfect bistro in Ghent

by Luchonda

Gent - July 2006 - upon my way to the famous "Gentsche Fieste" and coming in from Gent train Station (Gent St-Pieters) : it is a good idea to strenghten the internal human body by good food. Good food and excellent payable wines : this is what you will find here. Not only good wines, but also the famous belgian beer, called "Duvel" or "Leffe"What makes this Bistro so special ? Definately the teracces near the river. Some cool wind in one of the hottest summer periods in Belgium since 2003.A look at the boats passing by - the food - the drinks, the company : just a perfect day to start and going into the "Fieste" As a starter some fresh classical Salmon - and than "Mussles a la maison"The mussles were from Greece origin, small but delicious

Belgians are Bourgondians

by yashiko

Belgian people like good food and so we often go out for dinner. This results in a huge amount of restaurants in our country. We've got very expensive ones : Karmeliet in Brugge, Clos st Denis in Kortessem, Saint Paul in Lummen , Sir Anthony van Dyck in Antwerp, Comme chez Soi in Brussels,...And also cheap but good ones : Blue Olive in Hasselt , De pelgrim in Tongeren, A ton avis in Brussels, De varkenspoot in Antwerp, ....On my pages about the Belgian cities you'll find many good restaurants I already have been to. I can recommand every one off them. But if you're looking for more info you can look on the website of the Belgian restaurants ( www.resto.be)you're in good hands in most Belgian restaurants. Smakelijk - Bon appetit The Belgian kitchen is very good. We have a lot off influences from other countries nowadays, but we mix it with our own traditional food. Some of the more...
