Galeries St.Hubert, Brussels by windsorgirl If the weather is not cooperating, you can seek shelter in Europe's oldest shopping arcade, the Galeries St.Hubert. It has a beautiful interior. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

GODIVA CHOCOLATE BOX by ATLC I preferred Burie over Godiva, definitely. Though Godiva is also an excellent quality, one of the best known in Belgium.

by Helga67 The number one thing to buy in Belgium is without doubt the Belgian chocolates, called pralines. But we are also famous for our lace, diamonds (from Antwerp), antique, tapestries and pewter. Antique and flea markets are generally open on Saturdays and Sundays. Regular stores are open Mondays through Saturdays from 10am until 6pm.
Recently I heard on the radio that most Belgian products are more expensive than in other countries of the European Community. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Once again I''m going to mention beer. For a souvenir, find yourself a few bottles of really good beer that you cannot get at home. 75 cl bottles often can be bought in gift packaging. Or buy a set of smaller bottles with the accompanying glass. Other nice souvenirs are cheese and chocolate, of which you will find a good choice. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

Lace and tapestries are big business in Brugge. I made the mistake of making my first purchase near the Markt Square. Later that day while biking, I picked up another item, very similiar, in a shop many blocks from the square for almost half the price. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Although the Belgian franc has officially been replaced by the euro in 2002, many shops still have their prices in francs. This usually means that there are two prices on a product, both in euros and in francs. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Being a pocket-size sort of country, Belgium is cheap to get around in, but budget hotels are both rare and heavily booked - especially in summer. On the food front, eating out is far better for your palate than it is for your wallet. Travelling modestly, you could survive on $30 per day. But if you don't fancy sleeping in public toilets, figure on at least $50 per day. Banks are the best place to change your money, charging around US$4 commission on travellers' cheques. Out of hours, there are the less generous exchange bureaus. All major credit cards are widely accepted. Tipping isn't obligatory, and haggling is not exactly a national pastime. Please, do know that there are alcohol drinks other than beer in Belgium. The first ones I think of are Jenever (Peket in Walloon areas) and other eaux-de-vie. Distillerie de Biercée is one of well-known brands here. Still sticking to traditional methods (with improvements though), they assert on their website that their products "do not contain synthetic flavouring, colorant, preservative or other additives." When entered the Biercée website, click on BONUS to have some cocktail suggestions... Quite interesting. You can find their products in wine and liquor shops.. I would give addresses later. Also, there should be other brands too but this one, I know it is a good one.. and the only I know, btw. :)
You can try: -Peket de Houyeu :35 % vol -Fruits de la Forêt : 17 % vol (fruit basis: blueberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and black elder) -Biercine : 35 % vol (fruit basis: seven plants chosen for medicinal features) -Eau De Villée : 40 % vol (fruit basis: Murcie lemons and other secret fruits). This one has won an award in 2003. -Poire Williams N°1 : 43 % vol (fruit basis: pear)
Approx. prices for those I cited, check hereafter weblink though there are more Biercée stuffs than that. http://www.dewijnboetiek.be/Eaux-de-vie_fr.htm Leave a Comment
