Chapeau Banana Lambic (De Troch) by irisbe Belgium beer is So good you might want to drink more then you can take! There is a saying that there is a Belgian beer for any taste. When Kinga visited Antwerp she said she never drank any beer, she just don't like it. When I let her try the Banana beer of De Troch, she changed her mind! This beer is a beer with low alcohol percentage, based on a geuzebeer and enflavoured with banana taste. I am not sure if you still can call it a beer though `-) It is one of the many other fruit flavoured beers they have. Picture 1 is the Chapeau Banana Lambic. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brouwerij De Troch Langestraat 20 Wambeek, 1741 Belgium phone: +32 (0)25 82 10 27
Drink slow, enjoy the taste.... ......... and go bananas!

by Ronald_T In Antwerp, the area around the central station, especially at the diamond neighbourhood, are a lot of shops with golden watches, gold chains and other jewelled things. Think twice before you buy something there. I doesn’t mean that all shops over there are corrupt, but beware for false goods.

La Binchoise by irisbe I tasted the Binchoise Christmas beer for the very first time in the pub the Delirium Tremens in Brussels. At that moment they had 3 special christmas beers on tap and this was one of them. I thought it to be a good beer, although it was not my most favored of the threesome. I could recomend you to try it out. I haven't tried it from the bottle, only from tap. Visit the website of the brewery. Leave a Comment

Luring windowdisplays, quality products, tradition by Norali This is, for me, the tourist trap n°1 while visiting Belgium: food. I include there the products but also the sense of tradition, hospitality and quality. Most of times, quality products that are sold to both locals and tourists alike are the results of decades of commitment in quality. Indeed, locals really enjoy quality food and tend to make some extra whenever possible: a delicious ballotin, some special beer, the cookies, the vast arrays of cheese and cooked meat..etc... This quality thing is backed by the locals' requirements in what they are ready to pay. Belgians are not greedy, know about quality and enjoy making the little effort to afford the products for special events. That's Belgium, food is taken seriously. Plus, products as chocolate sell well in windowdisplay. To the latter are applied the themes of seasons, no wonder tourists visiting the country in summer would know a running-off while returning here in, say, September. Windowdisplays have changed. Then follow Xmas season, the plain wintery mood.. till you reach Valentine's day with a profusion of red hearts and Peynet figurines.. then Easter with its tons of rabbits, eggs sold and displayed everywhere. The trap lies in the piling up of kilos on the hips, belly (watch out that beer !!)...
Either treat yourself everyday then tackle with a severe diet once home. Either you organize yourself a little bit, alternate the fastuous days with the more strict ones. Belgium salads are not that bad. lol OK, I can also advise to walk and drink water a lot.. but I'd rather say, when weather permits. Walking long enough while soaking wet is not fun. It is a great possibility, however. Well, once you follow my advices :-) the only thing that makes one think of fooding in Belgium as a trap is ... the wallet. In this case, one can always look for the brasserie cuisines. They are far cheaper than fancy restaurants but would give you an overview of local specialties. I am talking about waterzooi, stoemp, lapin aux pruneaux (rabbit & plums), carbonnades flamandes (beef in beer sauce + fries), beer cuisine in general...etc... For chocolate (not pralines !!), supermarkets sell good products at reasonable price as well: from box with fillings to chocolate box at 70-80% cocoa. The one which is known for such high percentages is Côte d'Or. Besides, I like in supermarkets Galler (for the orange cream-filled chocolate bar). Meurisse and Callebaut are good brands for Whole nuts chocolate as well.
OK, the other alternative is to bring products home. There, you would have to share with family and friends so you wouldn't eat much. You'll see! It's a pleasure to offer something and there seems to be an interest in doing so, too. :-) Leave a Comment

Brussles by dr.firas The little machine to but products like Snickers, Mars, Twix, Cola's and etc... is every where in Paris, that's a good solution for having your order fast and cheaper than many other places, but don't forget that you can alwasy have a better price in other supermarkets! I always use the comparing prices of Water! here you'll have it for 1,50 Euro and in the supermarket the same water for 25 cents! Leave a Comment

Belgium by dr.firas First of all, you have to know, there are no WC unpaid, you have to pay everytime you go! but one tourist trap is possible, you can go followng the picture, and then you reach the WC and it is closed for no reason, just like here as you can see in the picture!
I really dunno, maybe my only advice is: Don't drink lots of Beer, heh but that's impossible when you are in Belgium! Leave a Comment

Dr.Firas in Brussles by dr.firas I was very confused! in my passport I was born in Louvain in the St.Luc Clinique Maternite, you can see I was traped, I went to Leuven and asked for the hospital, and they told me it is in Brussles, when I went there I thought finally I'm in the place! but later my mama called me and told me, that before the sepaeration of the 2 Universities of Lueven: the Flemish and French, the St.Luc used to be in Leuven, now it is moved to Brussles, anyway, I was happy to know that the Doc who let me see the light, is still alive and active, a pity it was Sunday and I couldn't meet him, but anyway I have his number, I'll do this some day later :-) Leave a Comment
