De Lijn is the bus company that runs through Flanders and some other places in Belgium. Tickets: Ordinary ticket- costs depends on where you are going. It will be a lot cheaper if you buy it before hand from the ticket boots, the train station or from some stores and bakeries. A DAY PASS- costs €5 and you can use it the whole day. A 3-DAY PASS- costs €10 A 5-DAY PASS - costs €15 A LINE CARD costs €8 and you can travel 10 times with the bus any time you want. ***It is wise to buy the tickets before hand. Buying them from the driver will cost you a bit more. ***The website below is only in Dutch.

NMBS is the name of the National Railway System in Belgium. It is very efficient, most of the time, clean and the best way to travel locally. The tickets: Go Pass- for people under the age of 26. It is a ten-ticket ride. You fill them in everytime you take the train. Go Pass is transferable and can also be shared by several people. This is the cheapest way to use the train. Go Pass costs €45.00---that means, €4.50 per ride, may it be near or far. You just fill in the card from departure station to arrival station. Railpas- same function as the Go Pass but it is for people from 26 years to 59 years old. This costs €73.00 meaning €7.30 per ride. This is practical if you are travelling for long distance places. Keycard- same function as the Go Pass and Railpass but for short distance places only. For example, if you are in Bruges, you can visit the beaches by train with the keycard---ex: Brugge to Knokke, Blankenberge, Zeebrugge, Torhout, etc. This card costs €17.00---that is, €1.70 per ride. Good value especially if you are planning to go to the beach side frequently. For more informations regarding fares and schedules, please visit their website.

Finished around 1905, Antwerp's centraal station is considered one of the most beautiful train stations in the world and I totally agree. It's conveniently located as well, not that it shouldn't be, it's the "central" station, after all, but if you only wanted to spend the day in town you wouldn't have far to go from the train station to see the city highlights. The diamond shops are all around the station and the main shopping street, Sint-Jakobsmarkt, and the grote markt are just down the street. The zoo is literally next door. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

When your travelling in the Benelux countries, travel between the countries is usually quick and convenient. Taking Eurostar to Brussels and a connecting train to Amsterdam is an excellent way to go, faster than the train+ferry, and there is a wider choice of departures. It's a very comfortable way to travel, and it avoids a sea crossing if that's important to you. There are two options: You can take the regular hourly InterCity trains between Brussels & Amsterdam, or with slightly faster, more comfortable but less frequent and much less flexible Thalys high-speed trains between Brussels and Amsterdam. InterCity trains are more frequent and don't require seat reservations, so can be more flexible if you want to stop off in Brussels. But the Thalys trains are more comfortable and faster, though only slightly faster, as there's as yet no separate high-speed line between Brussels and Amsterdam so they use the same tracks as the InterCity trains. The trip takes 2 hours 45 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal to Bruxelles-Midi, and thats using both ways. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Travelling to and from Belgium and other Benelux countries to the UK is not as simple as it seems, information on the different ways to travel overland are sparse if you don`t wish to travel the most expensive oveland route which is Eurostar. The trip between Amsterdam and Brussels takes about 2 hours 45 mins, so it`s a viable option to travel via Holland when travelling over to Belgium from the U.K. Option 1: London-Amsterdam by train+ferry, overnight with cabin: This is the most convenient & time-effective way to go, and one ticket covers the whole journey: £55 one-way, £110 return from central London to central Amsterdam or anywhere else in the Netherlands. The fare includes the train to Harwich, a private cabin on the ferry with en suite shower/toilet, and onwards train travel in the Netherlands. Leave central London in the evening, sleep on the ferry, and arrive in Rotterdam, the Hague or Amsterdam next morning. It runs daily, ideal for a weekend away or an eco-friendly business trip. One ticket covers the whole journey, as Stena Line, National Express Trains East Anglia & NS (Dutch railways) sell cheap combined train+ferry fares from London or any National Express East Anglia railway station to Amsterdam or any rail station in the Netherlands. Stena Line withdrew its fuel-thirsty HSS fast ferry on this route in January 2007, and opened up its conventional ferries to foot passengers. Both Stena Line ships, the Stena Hollandica & Stena Britannica, have undergone a £75m rebuild with more cabins, better passenger facilities, additional bars and restaurants. To achieve this, they've each had a huge new centre section welded in, making them the longest ships of their type in the world. Cabins All cabins now feature new luxurious sprung Dux mattresses and offer en-suite facilities with ‘Body Shop’ branded toiletries. Comfort Class cabins also offer a larger lower-berth bed (1200mm x 2000mm) mini bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, flat screen satellite TV, free WiFi access, hair dryer, whilst Captain Class cabins additionally offer 1400mm x 2000mm mattress double bed, fresh fruit, larger shower area and complimentary mini bar. Antwerpen-Centraal Railway Station in Antwerp is one of the landmarks in Belgium. It is located in the heart of Antwerp. Lots of shophouses and shopping complexes are located around the Central Railway Station. You may travel from Antwerp to many large cities with rail links in Continental Europe. Antwerpen-Centraal Railway Station was completed and opened to traffic in 1905. It has four levels with 14 platforms. The main terminal building was designed by Louis Delacenserie. In a way it has become a tourist attraction with lovely facade suitable for some souvenir sanpshot! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

When in Belgium, get a day ticket (~4EUR) or a 3-day ticket (~10EUR). You can use it in the city transport (bus, metro, tram) for a unlimited number of travels. Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

If you are under 28 (not sure about age), Go Pass is ideal option for traveling around Belgium by train. 10 trip card costs just 46 EUR (as of Sep 2008). You just have to fill in one record per trip. The route is flexible, allowing you to get off in the middle and get on the next train again (e.g. Brussels - Bruges route could be split into Brussels - Ghent and Ghent - Bruges). Belgium is very compact country (travel time between Brussels and such cities as Ghent, Bruges, Anwerp varies between 30-60 minutes), so most travels could be done as one day trip.
