Brussles by dr.firas Taxis are always the luxury way to move in Brussles, and it is most of the time a great car like Mercedes! the point is that you have always to be ready to pay not less than 12 Euros! and maybe more depending on the distance! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by Leipzig All highways are illuminated by street lamps at night. Maximum Speeds: For cars traveling outside city limits, a maximum speed of 90 km/h applies. Within city limits, the speed is 50 km/h. City limits are clearly marked by signs. On freeways, a speed of 120 km/h is prescribed. Important rules: According to the law, seat belts must be worn by all passengers in the car! Motorcyclists must drive with a helmet! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

The belgian public transport system must be one of the best in the world. Complaining about it is a national sport however, yep, we are a spoiled bunch! Trains (www.nmbs.be) link every city, small or large. Highspeed trains (mostly) departing from Brussels South Station connect to Holland (Amsterdam,...), United Kingdom (London via channel tunnel $$), France (Paris, Lyon,...) and Germany (Köln,...). There is an excellent train-connection from Zaventem International Airport to the centre of Brussels, although not at night. Busses (www.delijn.be (Flanders),http://www.tec-wl.be/ (Wallonie), The buscompany that operates in Brussels does not allow links to be placed, how stupid is that??) ) are used for local transport and also have a elaborate network connecting virtually every village, large or small. Tickets for trains and busses can be purchased up to the last moment for national travel. For international trains, the earlier you book, the cheaper they will be (by large margines!). Being belgians, we have all kinds of possible reductions on tickets but you will have to figure this out by yourself as the people at the information desk often haven't got the slightest idea (sad but true).Busses for large distant travel are not popular but available non the less --> www.eurolines.com/. Belgians prefer the train though. A tramline (www.dekusttram.be) serves the whole coast from De Panne to Knokke. Taxis are more expensive than in the average european country. All in all a nice airport. Good connection to brussels by train (and to the rest of Belgium and Europe from there). The shops, bars and restaurants at the airport are very expensive. The trains (www.nmbs.be) do not ride at night so it is possible to get stranded in the airport (happened to me once). Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

TRIPS BELGIUM.... by eden_teuling In search of means of transportation: come by air, by sea, by car, cycle or walk, take a cruise.........all is possible, believe me!! and I can know because when you see the map (enlarge it) you can see Middelburg (where I live) and at the same time see how close Brugge, Gent, Antwerpen and Brussels is to my house: 1-2 hrs. and never more........so I am at home there... Public transport is reliable, frequent and punctual!!!!! there are buses, trains, planes, boats, bikes and you can rent a lot of these means of transport!! Leave a Comment

Gare centrale - Central station by Norali Railtripping, imho, is the best way to visit Belgium. Yet, I use to enjoy my roadtrips and bikerides in Belgium. They are even my favourite for letting me stop here and there, enjoy evenings in far places. Railtripping to hop from a city to another and walking to visit each city. For the country being so small, its railway net is one of most dense in the world (if not, the most). Best place to base yourself is Brussels and from there, nip over Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven go to Tournai, Ardennes, Namur, Ličge... etc.. and lesser known towns. Check http://www.b-rail.be/ Some cons: -time constraints (better not stay too late somewhere.. trains don't circulate at wee hours). Check below website to know about the last train rides. -you can't step down and stop over areas as you would like. Some pros: -no concern about parking (fees, time wasted in looking for parking lots...) -cheap Leave a Comment

OK, I'm biased. Coming from the Netherlands I'm used to a railway company that regularly increases its prices while service only gets worse. Punctuality has become a myth, a thing people seem to remember without being actually sure if it ever existed. Poor Belgium has nothing to do with this, but still I feared the worst for my first traintrip through my new country. It turned out quite good though. First, I had calculated the price of my ticket (Turnhout-Brussel) beforehand, but as I travelled in a weekend it was almost 50% cheaper than that! For 9,40 euro I went to Brussels and back. Second, the train was punctual. Third, I had no trouble finding a non-smoking place. It did seem to me that trains run slower than in the Netherlands, but I call that a minor point. A major negative point for me is that you're not allowed to get out at stations along the way. You can buy an extra ticket for that, but not in weekends. So there's no room for impulsiveness; you have to plan your journey well beforehand. Leave a Comment Theme: Train
