The best way to get to Belgium is by ferry from the UK. There are many routes to Ostend and Zeebrugge.Take your car. Belgium has an excellent motorway system to get around quickly, as well as very quiet and enjoyable minor roads.Belgium also has an good rail network, and if you travel to Ostend, you can walk to the station for a fast journey to Brugge, Gent, or Brussels.
- Air - No domestic air transportation is available; trains are suggested. - Public transportation : Trams and Buses available in all major cities - Buses connecting cities are available but not recommended. - Metro is available only in Brussels. There is a standard flat-fare system, with discounts for 5- and 10-journey tickets, One-day tickets and multi-mode tourist travelcards. All are available at various metro stations and newspaper kiosks. - Taxis : are available at Taxi stands or at entrance of hotels. The price of the trip is displayed on the meter, including the service charge. - Train : A dense train network connects all of Belgium. National and international passes are available at major train stations in Belgium. Seat reservations are not available on Belgian trains (except for groups). The price of a round-trip ticket is double the price of a one-way ticket. The one-way trip...

BRUSSELS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT : lies 8 miles (13 Km) northeast of the city center. Airport facilities include: Information/help desks, Money Exchange, Post Office, Duty Free Shops, Car Rental, Cafes/Restaurants, Beauty Shop, Business Center, Religious Services, Train Information & Reservation, Travel Agency, ATM machine and luggage lockers. All facilities are located in the Arrival Hall. There is direct bus transportation from the airport to Antwerp, Eindhoven (Sabena) and to Rotterdam (Virgin Express). Taxi service from the airport to the city center is approximately US $33.00 (BEF 1,200). Taxis are available 24 hours. Discount round-trip rate is available. There is a train shuttle service from the airport to the North, South and Central stations, which runs every 20 minutes and takes about 20 minutes. It operates between 5:24am to 11:46pm from the airport and 5:40am to 11:10pm...

For me the best way to return to Belgium is taking a plane, but it is also nice to travel by mototcycle . At least that is what my dad says. He loves it and so do a lot of other Belgians. Gent unfortunately isn't suitable for motorcycles. In belgium you can get around by car for long distances. To get around in the city you can take a bus or 'Tram' =Railway. When you want to get around by car in the city you often have to look for a parking spot for a long time when you go into the city on week-ends or during The festivities of Gent in july. You can go to amusements parks or to the sea by train.
I found Brussels International Airport to be one of the very BEST I have been to in all of Europe. Since there is much less traffic here than in the airports of some of the larger cities, the chance for delays and lost luggage should be lower. (While I have never had any specific problems in other airports in Europe, I found myself very comfortable here because there were just fewer people for me to have to make my way through. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why several of the EU's bodies are located in Brussels.)
If you stay inside Brussels, you won't need so much transports, and anyway, it's beter to not count on the bad transport company we have in this city.Belgium is not so big, if you have time, use the train. But to avoid losing time by waiting for transports, you're beter to rent a car from the airport or the train station where you arrive.
I drove through Belgium, and compared to France and Germany the roads are not very well signposted. Be careful, and use your map!For Ypres, the best guide is Mr. and Mrs. Holt's Guide to the Battlefields of Ypres. There are numerous British tour companies that will take you around the battlefields, but if you have a Holt's guide and a car you can manage it yourself.
The trains in Belgium are just as nice as any other country. Here's some info on train stations in big cities. Brussels has three main train stations, Midi, Centraal, and Nord. Most people come and go in the Midi station which is a terribly long way from the city center. But so is the Nord station. Centraal station is well located just a few blocks off of the Grand place, so try and stop there if you can. Brugges train station is a good 10-15 minute walk from the city's center, so either be ready to walk or get a taxi or bus. I don't think there are trams in Brugge. Antwerp's main station is the Centraal station, plus there is Antwerp Berchem which serves destinations to the North of the city. For instance, if you are in Antwerp and want to get to Amsterdam you'd have to get the 5 minute train to Antwerp Berchem, then get off and get on another train to Amsterdam. The Centraal station is...

By plane to Brussels from long distance, or by rail or road from elsewhere in Europe. From the UK there is a direct Eurostar rail link from London to Brussels.By rail or road. The connections by both are great. A rail pass is great value and you can get to almost everywhere by train! In Brussels, take a tram out of the city into the coutryside to the south of the city - it makes a great day out.
