Antwerp's Train Station

by DueSer

Finished around 1905, Antwerp's centraal station is considered one of the most beautiful train stations in the world and I totally agree. It's conveniently located as well, not that it shouldn't be, it's the "central" station, after all, but if you only wanted to spend the day in town you wouldn't have far to go from the train station to see the city highlights. The diamond shops are all around the station and the main shopping street, Sint-Jakobsmarkt, and the grote markt are just down the street. The zoo is literally next door.

Brussels to Amsterdam

by budapest8

When your travelling in the Benelux countries, travel betweenthe countries is usually quick and convenient.Taking Eurostar to Brussels and a connecting train to Amsterdamis an excellent way to go, faster than the train+ferry, and there isa wider choice of departures. It's a very comfortable way to travel, and it avoids a sea crossing if that's important to you. There are two options: You can take the regularhourly InterCity trains between Brussels & Amsterdam, or with slightly faster, more comfortable but less frequent andmuch less flexible Thalys high-speed trains between Brussels and Amsterdam.InterCity trains are more frequent and don't require seat reservations,so can be more flexible if you want to stop off in Brussels. But the Thalys trains are more comfortable and faster, though onlyslightly faster, as there's as yet no separate high-speed line between Brussels and Amsterdam so they...

UK to Benelux countries

by budapest8

Travelling to and from Belgium and other Benelux countriesto the UK is not as simple as it seems, information on thedifferent ways to travel overland are sparse if you don`t wish to travel the most expensive oveland route which is Eurostar. The trip between Amsterdam and Brussels takes about 2 hours 45 mins,so it`s a viable option to travel via Holland when travelling over to Belgiumfrom the U.K.Option 1: London-Amsterdam by train+ferry, overnight with cabin:This is the most convenient & time-effective way to go, andone ticket covers the whole journey: £55 one-way,£110 return from central London to central Amsterdam or anywhere elsein the Netherlands. The fare includes the train to Harwich,a private cabin on the ferry with en suite shower/toilet, andonwards train travel in the Netherlands. Leave central Londonin the evening, sleep on the ferry, and arrive in Rotterdam, the Hague or...

Central Railway Station, Antwerp

by hopang

Antwerpen-Centraal Railway Station in Antwerp is one of the landmarks in Belgium. It is located in the heart of Antwerp. Lots of shophouses and shopping complexes are located around the Central Railway Station. You may travel from Antwerp to many large cities with rail links in Continental Europe.Antwerpen-Centraal Railway Station was completed and opened to traffic in 1905. It has four levels with 14 platforms. The main terminal building was designed by Louis Delacenserie. In a way it has become a tourist attraction with lovely facade suitable for some souvenir sanpshot!

Belgium by Train

by DanielF

Belgium was a pioneer country in the history of railway. The first railway in continental Europe opened between Brussels and Mechelen as early as 1835, only ten years after the first railway operated between Darlington-Stockton, England. Some of the trains and many of the stations seem to back to those pioneering times, as they look so terribly old and in poor condition. However, as a densely populated country, Belgium has an extensive railroad network which reaches all urban centers in the country in a web pattern with its center in Brussels. Tickets are relatively cheap and the frequency of services is high, with not too many significant delays. All the lines are on standard gauge and operated by the NMBS / SNCB Company. A high speed line suitable for 300 km/h traffic connects Brussels with the Paris and London via Lille. A second line (only partially in operation) goes to Cologne via...

Passes for local travel

by amitgupta76

the best way to travel in Ghent is to buy a Lijnkaart pass. It allows you to travel 10 times for just 80 cents each,(normally it is 1.6 Euro on the bus and 1.2 on the station). if there are more than one tourist, you can use the same pass for all of them. In Brussels buy a day pass for 4 Euro, and travel everywhere to your heart's delight. In Bruges, dont buy pass, just walk

Balloon transport is popular in Belgium

by Luchonda

A rather different way to visit Belgium !This way of visiting parts of provinces in Flanders is very popular ! (Waasmunster area-Antwerp) It is not cheap - about 150 euros - but spectacular !Reservation and forecast about weather conditions is a must !Pic 3/4 : The smurfs celebrate their 50th anniversary - Smurfs strip albums created by Peyo in 1954. But how will the world of the Smurfs adapt to that of the 21st century? If the past is anything to go by, and the future will be a digital production, the answer must be: smurfingly!

Eurostar from London to Brussels

by antoniasj

Eurostar now reaches Brussels in less than 2 hours from London St Pancras. You can book your train ticket on Euro Travel. I recommend choosing Leisure Select class which only costs a little more than standard class but the carriages are less crowded, the price includes a three course meal, wine and coffee served at your seat and there is a continental plug socket next to your seat.

move slowly

by inarite

I find it difficult to orientate in the Brussels metro/bus/tram network. At the train stations they don't type the last stop - only your destination. So you have to either ask which direction your train goes or you have to know it :)
