By rail

by Sjalen

Belgium lies at many crossroads and is a small country so train services are excellent. High Speed options Eurostar (www.eurostar.com) and Thalys (www.thalys.com) takes you to and from London/Lille and Paris, Amsterdam/Cologne respectively. All in short time. There are also the pure Belgian national trains which run between Germany and the Belgian coast via Brussels as well as from Brussels to Luxemburg via the Ardennes towns. Apart from that, there it also runs a lot of smaller lines. National trains in Belgium are very cheap and even cheaper Saturday to Monday when there is a weekend rate. You can also get special "Excursion tickets" which include both train fare and the entrance to well-known sights throughout the country. Ask for a booklet at major stations.

Save on rail trips

by lukky

If you are under 26 you can buy a Go Pass for the Belgian railway system. It's currently (May 2005) 43 Euros for 10 one-way trips in 2nd class, any distance. Several people can share one pass, as long as they are all under 26 years old. You can buy the pass in train stations, ask the station attendants how to fill it in (you need to fill in each journey you make and it will be stamped on the train).

Things to know when taking the bus

by Maeve_81

When waiting for a bus, wave your hand at the driver so he'll stop or you'll have to wait untill the next bus.Be aware that when you're on the bus, the driver doesn't stop everywhere! You have to ring the bell, right before you need to get off.

Ryanair - low cost

by belgianchocolate

You can safe quit some money if you wait forthe right period to travel and you can evensafe more by chosing the right company.'Ryanair' brings you safe and low cost to Belgium. The name ' Brussels south-Charleroi' might bea bit misleading. But getting to Brussels is no problem. The price is not the only reason why I likethis company. You can check in up to 40 minutes before your flight leaves. No fuss with numbered seats...friendly fast.Always check on the website for conditions and destinations. Things change now andthen.

by belgianchocolate

Belgium has got great public transport. The train is the most convenient oneif you are traveling between cities or villages. It is inform on cheaper formulas likeB-dagtrip if you are going to visit a tourist attraction. Or a formula like a 10 rides passif you are staying longer in Belgium. You can get some information here!

The Brussels Metro

by Paul2001

Brussels has a small but very efficient metro system. It was very helpful way to get about the city. One of the things I like about it that I have never seen in any other metro systems was the computerized signs that show you where all the trains are along the metro system. This way you have some idea. There are three colour coded lines, yellow, orange and red. A single ticket for a ride on the metro costs 1.35 Euros. You must stamp your ticket before you hop onto the train at the turnstiles. A strip of five will cost you 5.95 Euros while for 8.90 Euros you can get a ten strip ticket. For 3.60 Euros you can get a 24 hour ticket that will get you on all of Brussels, metro stations, trams and buses. This is ideal for the tourist like me. Unfortunately the website listed below is only in French.

There are a number of ways for...

by Raquelle

There are a number of ways for travellers to get to Belgium. The most obvious way is to fly. The national airline is Sabena and most International flights fly into Brussels. Most airlines fly to Belgium. There are only two direct ferry crossings to Belgium and they are both from England. They are from Dover to Ostend with Hoverspeed and from Hull to Zeebrugge with P&O North Sea Ferries.Belgium has a very good train network and you can travel from most European countries by train to Belgium. The national railway is known as SNCB. For information on timetables, prices etc please visit their website; www.sncb.beYou can also drive to Belgium. Belgian drivers do have a reputation for being agressive and this may be down to the fact that there was no practical driving test until 1979. If you can drive in other European countries you can drive in Belgium. Belgium does have an excellent motorway...

By feet

by dr.firas

Walking in general is the best way inside the city, to move from close distances, actually only by walking you can always discover things you could never see if you're riding, and you can control your stops!so it is always the big adventage!

Trains

by dr.firas

Actually a trip from Paris to Brussles on the TGV is about 80 Euros one way ticket, but some times there are some ways to have discounts when you book your trip months Before!but that's not easy or possible all the times!

Tip Photo
Trains

by dr.firas

The trains are good and cheap in Belgium, you can have a ticket to Leuven from Brussles for 4 Euros, and that's really good price, also always think of the discounts you could have when you reserve your trip earlier!
