Belgium has two international airports

by dedeckerm.

Belgium has two international airports, the main one being Zaventem, 14km north-east of Brussels. The other one, Deurne, is close to Antwerp and has less frequent flights to Amsterdam, London, Liverpool and Dublin only.Depending on when you leave, flights to London can be cheaper from Deurne. If you're in Europe already, a bus or train is the best option.Eurolines and Hoverspeed Citysprint operate international bus services to and from Belgium. Belgium Railways has frequent international services. Brussels has three main station and is the central hub, with lines in all directions. Two companies operate car/passenger ferries to and from Britain: North Sea Ferries (overnight from Zeebrugge to Hull) and Oostende Lines/Sally Ferries (six boats daily between Ostend and Ramsgate).

Criss-cross around Belgium but how ?

by dedeckerm.

Belgium is cheap and easy, which makes up for the rather expensive, and often heavily booked, accommodation. While there are plenty of buses and a hiring a car is an easy enough option, the country's transport system is dominated by its efficient rail network. The fastest services are the InterCity trains, backed up by InterRegional and local trains. In the more remote areas, buses take up the slack. There's a good public transport system (including trams and a small metro system in Brussels and Antwerp).Taxis, which lurk outside most train stations, are metered and expensive.Cycling is popular in the flat north and many roads have separate lanes for bikes. Railway stations rent bikes. It's also possible to hire a boat to cruise along the many rivers and canals.

With the public transport....

by Ronald_T

With the public transport. Because Belgium is a small country you can best driving around with the train or bus . Taxis are very expensive here, and the public transport brings you everywhere. Using the train there is always a possibility of a strikes; sometimes trains are later than announced. But here in Belgium the have a very curious opinion about trains being late. Suppose the 11 am train is too late, we still call it the 11 am train, even when he arrives half an hour later! ;-)))Using a car mostly results in a traffic jam.

by AnVR

Flying into Brussels airport or take a train to Brussels. Or come by car.By car, as public transportation is expensive and crap. Some buslines don't go on Sundays, trains are often late. So rent a car or come to Belgium by car.Cruising through Belgium by push bike should be fairly easy as this is a flat country.

Quite easy, but it had been easier before Sabena collapsed. Now if you are travelling by air you'll have to count on fewer flights. But still all the major capitals are connected with Brussels. If you are travelling to Belgium from a European country, you will not encounter problems trying to reach it by train. There's a whole network of trains some of them high-speed ones, notably from Geneva and Paris. If you are ready to change trains at least once or twice you will be able to reach Belgium from virtually any major European city. Buses of Eurolines and its peers are another option. Not to mention that there are excellent road leading to and from Belgium (and inside it as well, of course) for those who have their own or rented car.

No problem to get in Belgium.Overseas by plane, in Europe by plane, train, car, boat, whatever ...Belgium is in the middle so no problem here.By train or bus is the easiest way to get around. In less than 2 hours you can be anywhere in Belgium.http://www.b-rail.be

Getting to Belgium can be with plane or train if you're coming from other european country. From UK it is also possible with ship 'Dover-Oostende'.Getting around Belgium can be with a private car, train, bus all over the city, or a Metro in Brussels.

by witchabroad

Public transportation in Belgium is not cheap, but rather efficient. The NMBS/SNCB (national railway company) offers various special tickets: go-pass for those under 26, multi-pass for groups, a cheaper 2-day weekend ticket, and the B-dagtrip, which includes the journey and the entrance fee to a tourist attraction.More info on www.b-rail.be.Keep in mind that even a short-distance taxi ride will be quite expesive!I would not particularly recommend renting a car in Belgium (traffic is quite heavy at times), unless you want to explore Wallonia and the Ardennes in particular. This, by the way, is highly recommended. As the more remote places in the Ardennes are the more charming, it it best to explore the region by car. Have a look, for instance, at the Hautes Fagnes or the area around Bouillon.Cycling is very popular in Belgium. In several areas there a re designated picturesque cycling...

by fed-up

The budget airlines use Charleroi airport which is about 40 minutes from Brussels. The public transport network is integrated and a day ticket costs 3.60 Euros (you can use it on both trams and metro - I'm not sure about the buses as I never used them - the trams go everywhere anyway). You also are supposed to scan your ticket on little orange machines - people who don't (allegedly) have season tickets which they must show to inspectors or pay a fine. (I used the trams twice without paying - it wasn't intentional but shows that you can do it without realising).
