 | Belgium Warnings or Dangers | Tips 1 - 10 of 69 | | ... during those VT meetings in Belgium. This is a serious warning. Be it for small or giga meetings in Belgium, they are likely to include city walks for Belgian cities being cities to walk in. So, I warn you. If you are to meet locals, bring walking shoes (no, not the stilletos). In winter, with raincoat very probably. In summer, walking sandals, but then sun lotion on top of your feet to avoid sunburn. Aah! another reason to wear good shoes is the various cobblestoned streets + squares in Belgian cities: you'll walk on them everywhere, in every centers of Belgian cities... All Grand-Places, Grote Markts I've seen so far are cobblestoned areas, for instance. In any case, back home or to your hotel, hostel, inn, it is always relaxing to have some foot bath with foot massage... And you would be ready for a good night. With a head full of those the memories of citywalks, the laughters, the drinks. Our TGV meeting in Feb. 2004 was one of the exceptions to the walking-drinking fun meetings. Leave a Comment

When driving around on the highway in Belgium, you may be heading for Luik and at a certain moment, you will only see signs to Liege. ???? Well, as Belgium is multilingual (French, Flemish and German) major cities have two or three different names depending on where you are. So when you are driving around and you pass one of those language frontiers, the name changes. Here are the most important cities: (Flemish - French - German) Brussel - Bruxelles - Brüssel Antwerpen - Anvers - Antwerpen Brugge - Bruges Gent - Gand Luik - Liege - Lüttich Namen - Namur Bergen - Mons Kortrijk - Courtrai Leuven - Louvain Doornik - Tournai Rijsel - Lille Aken - Aix La Chapelle - Aachen Leave a Comment

One who hits Belgium with an intent of tasting beer, or at least, spend times in cafés and pubs like locals do, would face the problem of drinking. Personnally, I think that one who savours, sips the beverage would not face much troubles provided you ate something before drinking. As a beer specialist, the one I spoke to couldn't help but agree. Her nodds spoke for herself. Luckily enough, I spotted her grazing on pedestrian area at De Brouckčre place and not in the middle of the Boulevard. She was not so far from pubs and cafés at the place, under the sun... mmm... Does it explain the fact that she could not utter any word? I guess so. When I noticed it and asked whether she was drunk, she just replied "Meuhh non!" with her threatening looks. Anyway, whatever she does, you guys, don't drink and drive. So many accidents are caused by this neglecting behaviour. Some partygoers end up in hospital with cuts and bruises, some die or kill other innocents... just because of this mad combination of drink and drive, alcohol and car. Dannie was afraid of her. That's why she shooted from far... During my "Cowsspotting session", other cows revealed me facts and stories about Belgium and its inhabitants. They are in some tips of this page and in Tlogs of my Brussels then my Région de Bruxelles-Capitale pages. Leave a Comment

Summer 2003 is really hot, sticky hot with this heatwave devastating Europe. While visiting Belgium, now is the time locals, who use to nag about Belgian rainy weather, would pray for some rain. My advices: bring some bottle of water while walking through the city. In addition, don't go under the sun if you are too sensitive unless you have your strong SPF cream. Sunglasses are useful to avoid this bright light hindering you. If you drive, don't leave neither the pets, neither the kids, neither your mother-in-law in your car while having your shopping spree. And bring some extra bottles of water. These are the times when the three categories above mentioned (yes, the older mother-in-law, too) are especially vulnerable. Take care of them. Leave a Comment

OK... some noticed that your car fitted to their criteria of the "ideal" car to steal... Too bad! You wouldn't escape it. Now, if they just intended to pick some auto-CD, MP3 or your bag and wallet, you can still minimize the risk. While parking your car, even "Before" parking, don't forget to hide all valuable items (at least, the listed ones above) under your seats.. or if they don't fit in, in the back of the car.. Always think of that... It doesn't make of Belgian cities as the most dangerous areas where to park. You just have to pay attention. Some common sense is always useful. Leave a Comment

There is in Belgium not more danger than at other countries or city's. The greatest problem is like at other places the pickpockets. So BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS!

Well we probably ask for it with a fancy camera showing on the table, you can expect someone to try to steal it....... But we must tell you it was not a belgian who did it..... they are much better than their neighbours, it was a red nailed hand from Breda, Netherlands ! Leave a Comment

Be aware how you treat a belgian lady. As Tom found out the hard way, they can be mean and cruel. Beating on your head with their umbrella. And what was Tom doing? He just forgot to say Thank You........ Well here it is again: THANK YOU Dannie for showing us so much of your country during our visits!! Leave a Comment

Be aware that if you are forced to sleep in the attic it can be dangerous........ This picture shows there is no way to escape, since the hatch won't open because of the rainpipe in front of it. And if the hatch won't open, it will be pretty dark in there too ;-) Leave a Comment

Be vareful when you are in the train, some thives could rub you and go faster than you could ever reach when the train stops in one station for few seconds! I saw this before my eyes, when the thife run like crazy beside me with the bag od a lady, I didn't realize and understood that he was runing because he is a thife, it was too late! otherwise I'd stop him and kicked his ass!
