High above Blagaj you may spot the ruins of Stjepan grad on the Hum mountain.
In the 1st century AD the Daorsi, an illyrian tribe, built the first fortress here. Later the Romans built a fort at the same place. The castle that replaced the fortress became a major center of the Hum region. Over the centuries the castle changed hands several times to Bosnian kings and in 1428 to the feudal family of Kosaca who built 4 watching towers and high walls. The herzog Stjepan Vukcic Kosaca took over and still today the place is called after him. In 1465 the Turks came, stayed and used the castle until 1835.
You could walk up there on a steep path starting by the tourist office. We didn't have time to do so.
