Medugorje hill with a cross on the highest spot

The reason why this area (Medugorje village and the surroundings of the mountains at Podrobo) is holy to the Bosnians, is the fact that in June, 1981, a small group of local teenagers are said to have seen the Virgin Mary. The next day there were a few more teenagers, friends of the previous ones, and they too saw Virgin Mary, now carrying Jesus in Her arms.

It is said that since then Virgin Mary has been appearing to some visitors in the area. Medugorje has become a site of an international pilgrimage since then.

from closest airports

If you are going to Medugorje the best way is to fligh to Split, Dubrovnik, Mostar or Sarajevo.
Than you have couple of possibilitis. First you can thak a bus form these airports to the bus station and than thake a local buss to Medugorje. This is the cheapest way of coming to medugore. Or what you can do is ask around on the airport if there are gorups going to Medugorje and ask their gorup leader if you can accomany them this is the best way and the cheapest all you have to do is give some thing to the leader (20-40 Euros).
If you wish to take a taxi that the best would be if some one is to sedn a taxi form Medugorje to pick you up at the airport sinc it is much more expensive to take the taxi form airport. The price are around 80-100 Euros for one way but if there are 3 of you the price stays the same!

The truth is that a lot of Bosnia is under mines, but the area of Medugorje is mainly Coratian and Catholic and during the war this area was thank God saved form major war accitivitis so the are aronund Medugorje is free of mines, but if you are planing on visiting other places in Bosnia you will have to get additional information.
The only thin that you do have to wach out are the taxi dirvers sinc they some times know to press the gas pedal a litle bit more than they should and the streets are full of pilgrims.
But to my knowledge ther has been now serious accidents.

Favorite thing: The town is best known due to apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary which appeared to six Herzegovinian Croats children since 24 June 1981, and is now visited by pilgrims from around the entire world as a shrine.
