Turska kuca by croisbeauty As far as I know this is the only remaining palace from the Otoman's period of Banja Luka. It is situated in the heart of the city, on the bank of the river Vrbas and opposite to the Kastel. Unfortunately, the palace is in a very bad conditions now. Leave a Comment

The Episcopal Court by croisbeauty The Episcopal Court is situated opposite to the church and makes untilled complex with it. Banja Luka is multiconfesional town, right next to the ortodhox church there is catholic church. During the war, 1992-1995, the mosque was pulled down. The empty space and few left stones reminds on it nowadays. Too bad because it was one of the oldest and very attractive sights of the town. Leave a Comment

Banja Luka is in the Republic of Serbska within Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is no visible border - but the road signs suddenly become cyrillic. And the graffiti. From what I saw of it it seems prosperous and undamaged. For instance, I saw a United Colours of Bennetton shop in a charming winding street of shops - and that franchise doesn't open shops where they don't confidently expect sales. The sunshine was warm, the air, like everywhere in B & H, was crisp and clean. The meal I had in a wonderful restaurant under the walls of the old castle? fort? - was truly excellent. And the wine. I'm not sure if it was expensive - I was being paid for - but it was really tasty. And the wait staff were most pleasant. We left at midnight and the city streets were relatively quiet - but it seemed very safe. Just enough traffic around so you didn't get the wind up - but no drunken gangs of youths, or seedy looking characters lurking about. The whole town was very very clean and spruce. Leave a Comment
