    No milk any day!

Try something local. From Banja Luka’s Brewery. The “Nektar” (“Nectar”) Beer. It is very popular in whole Republic of Srpska and Serbia and Montenegro. A bottle (0,33 l) of it, in coffee bars in Gospodska Street, coasts 2,5 Convertible Mark (1,95 KM = 1 Euro).
    Cheers!

    Springs of Sana river

    First spring of Sana river

Trip to springs of Sana river cannot be just touristic things-to-do. It is about deep respecting of nature.

The Sana river is cristal clear and beautiful mountain river. It have even three springs. The Sana river springs up near Medna in Ribnik municipality. It is 146 km long and it flows into the river Una in the town called Novi Grad municipality. In general whole area invites for a hiking tour. It is possible to reach the springs from two sides, either from Donji Vrbljani or from Donja Pecka.
A legend says that the name has its origin in Latin word sana meaning healthy. Also, name San(a) in Serbian means dream.

Across the green meadows in direction to Previja there is small, sleepy mountain village Donja Pecka. Follow the footpath down into the valley to the wooden bridge. I visit two of three springs, The first spring call "Mračaj" that has its source in a cold, undiscovered karstic cave is just about 400 meters to the left from the wooden bridge. A lot of rocks have to be crossed, climbed or passed but the footpath is relatively well maintained and the hike is very challenging but enjoyable. The mouth of the second spring is a few meters to the right. You can find in the stream of the second spring a beautiful old mill.

One of the most interesting locations for fly-fishing is proximately 25km near the spring. With very rich with oxygen and fishing capacity and an approximate temperature of 7-10 degrees. Downstream of the river are 2 small canyons.

Sana river is very clean, on springs you can drink water this is optional, of course.

During the former Yugoslavia, the boys’ story was that the most beautiful women in it were in Split (Croatia) and Banja Luka. Trust me, it is true. Women from Banja Luka are really beautiful and very charming. Also, proportion is, they say, 7 women on one man. Gentlemen, this is MUST COME location for you.

Eco zona Zelenkovac is unique place of social harmony, creativity and good vibration.I never visit similar place. This is oldest resort of this kind on Balkan. It is similar to well known Drven grad on Mokra Gora in Serbia.

It is placed under mountain Lisina, surrounded by vibrant pine forest and it is great place to "hide" during hot summer days. Here is and lake and small creek.

It is experience at self, whatever you visit arts colony, jazz festival or other cultural events that held here or you in short visit to drink a beer or local rakia. No special or luxury treatment for visitors, accommodation are very modest. Relaxing and authentic atmosphere is what count here. It looks and feels like place where it could be filmed some hippie movie or better arrangement scout place.

Main attraction here is Gallery "Zasto Boro nije otisao?" (Serbian: "Зашто Боро није отишао?", English: "Why Boro didn't left?") Staff are friendly, it is very cheap and it full of interesting ethnographic details, so it is and gallery, cafe shop and museum in one. You will enjoy in reading all mementos and road signs and walking on marked trails and listen live music performance.

    Why visit Eko zona Zlenkovac?
    - Beautiful human creation incorporated into nature
    - located at 840 meters above sea level surrounding with ancient pine forest
    - Clear water and fresh mounting air
    - Be part and participant in creative outdoor classroom
    - dink beer cooled in creek nearby
    - network of roads, trails and roads that are ideal for walking, jogging and recreational activities - detailed marking and construction in progress.

    Monument on Banj brdo

Banj Hill (formerly Šehitluci) is a well-known resort of Banja Luka, from which one can see almost the entire city.
At the top of the hill (431 m above sea level) is a monument to the fallen fighters in the National Liberation War (1941-1945). The monument was mausoleum (high 13 and 24 m long). Author was Yugoslav sculptor and master memorial plastic Antun Augustinčić. Banj brdo dominates Banja luka valley, and its peak is located 5 km from the city center.

If you arrive to Banja Luka by car, take one afternoon and go to Jajce, 70km to the south, the scenery is amazing, mountains and the river. Watch the stones in the middle of the road, specially after the rain!

It was difficult....but we found it !! It is located at #75 Kralja Petra I, next to a photo shop, across from where the Ferhadija Mosque used to be. The woman working there was very nice and extremely helpful with information about Banja Luka, and BiH / Republika Srpska in general. We were able to get a prehistoric book of pictures, which also included a city map showing all the mosques (which were destroyed in the war).

We saw a cash machine on the outside wall of the post office (on Kralja Petra I). We didn't need cash at the time, but the sign indicated that it accepted Maestro / MC. So far, we have had the best luck with Raiffeisen Bank & Delta Bank while travelling in Republika Srpska.

    Gradska vrata

This is the old city gate, a part of fortification, which leads you into the old core of the town of Jajce. Above the gate, there is the medieval defending tower built in order to protect the entrance into the town.

Han or Konak, two different names of Turkish origin meaning hotel and restaurant. Usually in the basement there was a huge restaurant with the small windows on the top of the walls. The top floor served as a hotel, a kind of bad&breakfest accomodation.

    Plivsko jezero

Plivsko jezero, the Plivsko Lake, is situated just a few kilometres from the town of Jajce. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in whole Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are couple of restaurants and hotels situated on the lakeshore offering pretty good service for the tourists. It is idyllic and nice place and I recommend you to spend few days here.
