The Vrbas is a fast-flowing mountain river with several white-water stretches and pool drops. Just upstream from Banja Luka (ie south of the city) it passes through the Tijesno and Podmilacje canyons where a 20km (13 mile) stretch of the river has been marked out for competitive rafting. The grade is 2-4 and water volumes are pretty much guaranteed as they can be regulated by a dam at a hydro-electric plant farther upstream.
There is an international rafting festival each year and In 2009 Banja Luka will host the World Rafting Championships.
Camping facilities are often available.

As I said, Vrbas is very fast river. It is fantastic for kayaking and canoeing. Try to find out about some of clubs, rent a canoe or kayak and enjoy. But be careful. Otherwise, you will finish your trip in Sava River.
