Favorite thing: Bijeljina is located in campus Semberija, near river Drina and state Serbia. Today, Bijeljina is one of main trade centers of Republika Srpska. First marks of civilization are from 5000-3000 years b.c.
But first written mark about Bijeljina is from 1446. Uncommonly for one town, Bijeljina changed whole structure of population even twice in last 500 years, first when Turkish occupied it, and after that when Austrians arrived.
In 1533 there were 554 ortodox families and 218 muslim families. From this time is monastery Tavna, legacy of Nemanjic's dynasty. Serbs from this municipality were punished during the Karadjordje's raising. But, Filip Visnjic, the greatest Serbian bard is born here.
Favorite thing: Built between 1520 and 1566 during the period of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, the mosque was completely destroyed on the 13th March 1993 and rebuilt where it stood before.
