    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Arrival of winter and cold days of requires preparation. Because of the crisis, many citizens are returning to traditional heating or choose some new sources of thermal energy. Despite all the changes, the chimneys will be still irreplaceable.

The chimney sweep - that is sight that I didn't see a very long time. Even is a lot a space in towns in region full of small or big houses I dint see official chimney sweep in uniform. I am not particularly surprise when I saw a official add on one of tree in one road.

Decision on activities chimney sweep municipality Prnjavor No. 28/13 of 07.19.2013 all users in the municipality Prnjavor using chimneys, combustion plants and vents are required to clean the same at least once a year.

Fondest memory: The official beginning of new crafts in Europe is connected with1580 and with the with Saxon prince in Germany and also he introduced legislation requiring the constant cleaning of the masonry chimney.

The chimney sweep it is always presented as a cheerful and smiling. The one of stories is that meeting with him was caused the joy and it considered a fortune, and capture the button when it brought it bring people something good.

    Old charm of young town

by Odiseya Updated Mar 1, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Prnjavor is a somehow new town even there is archeological evidence of places from long past. Prnjavor settlement was first mentioned in written records in 1829. It belongs to the category of younger populated places in the region.

Prnjavor is not know as a town with high buildings and new huge and overrated construction project. It stack somewhere between old semi-rural settlement and semi-urban vacation on road as I see that. I am huge fun a old building especially traditional houses and AustroHungarian architecture on Bosnian style. It is a very photo moment and inspiration for draftsmen. Some of high maintenance guests can assume that here is still no willing for prospect and go along with rest of Europe. But I don't think so.

Resist to change and stubbornness with some folkloric colorful laziness and simplicity is my association on those images.

Fondest memory: Old town hall is very interesting as well of many old houses around the town.

    Origin of name Prnjavor

by Odiseya Updated Mar 1, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: There is several towns named Prnjavor in region of former Yugoslavia. In fact, there is about 12 towns Prnjavor in region. Interesting is that I listed even 37 option here on VT. Some of them are villages.
I think this Prnjavor is most popular Prnjavor of all of them.
If you have visited this town and wont to share your impressions please look careful on Bing map on guide.

Prnjavor is name used for places that was build on Monastery property. Prnjavor name comes from the common noun "prnjavor" which usually means a settlement in the possession of the monastery, usually not far from the monastery, and in several different vocabulary you could find another meaning - isolated places in the remote village. Some etymologists believe that the word "prnjavor" comes from the Greek word "Pronija", and some of the word "rags", a poor man's clothing.
The word "Pronija" means the version of the Byzantine ecclesiastical feudal landed property given to the management of a worldly person.
There is no solid evidence which Monastery belonged the space where is today town. Maybe it could be a Monastery Stuplje which is about 20 km away.

Fondest memory: I like to about origin of name of places I visit. Till present I visit several places named Prnjavor within country and in Serbia but this town is my favorite Prnjavor.

by Odiseya Written Nov 21, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: I was surprise to find a real old authentic well in heart of town. That sight is not often now in village and this is first I saw in town.
I found out that there a several public wells and springs in town of Prnjavor. There is three springs: "Dobra voda", "Brestovac" in Gradina and one in Živojin Preradović street. Also, two wells: one in Hilandarska street and one in within the old sawmill "Standard".

There is still active craft in digging well all over region. Still, springs craftsman search with old tool willow fork. Interesting story is that one craftsman is during his work in village Štrpci in Prnjavor municipality found a mammoth bones.

    Well in Prnjavor

    Origin of name Macino Brdo

by Odiseya Written Nov 4, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Acording to document in local catolic church, first official mention of setlment in this place is from 7th April 1896, and name Mačino brdo is from 17th January same year.
According to folks oral legends, theres a three variants of stories of how Mačino Brdo gets its name. According to first story – author was first duke of village Jozef Suhomel, he named village after official meeting with president of county. Second story – in local forest one day one pessent named Masho was killed by wolfs and today name its lingusting variation of original name Mašino Brdo (meaning Hill of Masho). And finally, Maćino Brdo takes name from wiled cats – mačke, so original name should be a Mačkino Brdo, and trough time its change to Maćino Brdo. Interesting is also that on Czech language word «brdo» is hill with forest (brdo obraslo šumom).
