 | | | | Places to eat in BiH - that's... | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Places to eat in BiH - that's a huge subject. Basicly - they are everywhere and they can be very tiny, but serve excellent food. All kinds of them are usually family businesses and haev bunch of permanent customers, so do not be surprised seeing only few menu items - these are dishes usually eaten by owner's friends. Basic categories of places to eat: RESTORAN (Serb: PECTOPAH) - a restaurant. Always with waiters and sophisticating menu. Drinks are expensive. Best stuff to be tried in a restaurant are different meat dishes (in the Republika Srpska I would recommend Karadjordjeva Snjicla) and salads (for instance Sopska Salata, also known as siriluk). Be aware that many salads can be very sour (sour peppers, cabbage, cucumbers etc.) Some very useful words are 'teljatina' - beef, 'Svinjina' - pork, 'jagnjetina' - lamb meet, 'salata' - salad, 'sa rostilja' - grilled, 'punjena' - stuffed with (specialites: punjena paprika). A good meal in the restaurant costs about 12-20 KM per person. Other - very common places are called 'Cevabdzinica'. They serve local version of hamburger - pljeskavica and small cuttelets - cevapcici (or cevapi). They are usually given in a special warmed bread (ljepina) and with onion. A very special thing you can get with it is kajmak - the fat collected from slowly warmed milk (sweet - serbian way, sour - bosnian way). It is delicious! The price of pljeskavica or cevapi is usually between 2 and 5 KM. Local lunch is burek - type of pastry - look for BUREKDZINICA and try many kinds of burek (with meat), sirnica (with cheese), zeljanica (with spinach) or krompirusa (with potatoes). It is often eaten with yoghurt. A good portion is about 2-3 KM. Something for a dessert? Go to SLASTICARNA (cake/cofeee shop). You will find tons of great (not as sweet as they look) cakes. The very special ones are bakalava (sweet, but delicious) and tufahija (apple stuffed with something good). Drinks? Cafes/bars are numerous, but you will not get usually anything more then drinks. I recommend very good fruit (herbal) teas. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
